In 2023, she obtained an educational specialist degree in educational leadership from Lindenwood University. My focus will be on growing existing programs and creating new opportunities so every student can graduate with a clear plan for their future,' Edgerton said. 'I look forward to working with teachers, counselors, and community partners to ensure students have the support, skills, and real-world experiences they need to take that next step with confidence,' she added. Andrea Fraser will be the next principal of gifted education. For the past three years, she has served as assistant principal at Wilson's Creek Intermediate School. She replaces Lenae Lazzelle, who is retiring. 'We are excited for Fraser to bring her expertise to Phelps Center for Gifted Education and continue to build upon the programs that engage and inspire students to develop their individual talents and capabilities,' said Ken Carlisle-Davis, Executive Director of K-8 & Middle Schools, in the release. Fraser has 24 years of experience in education, including serving the past 16 years in building leadership roles, including principal at Boyd Elementary School and Fremont Elementary School. Dr. Fraser began her career with SPS as a gifted education teacher at Phelps Center for Gifted Education. She completed her undergraduate studies at Missouri State University. She earned a master's degree in gifted education from Drury University and a master's degree in education administration from MSU. I am committed to unlocking the unique potential of advanced learners, creating an environment where they are understood, challenged, and encouraged to reach their fullest potential,' said Fraser. 'At the same time, ensuring that all gifted students, including those from underrepresented groups, have access to meaningful and challenging learning experiences that prepare them for future success,' Fraser added. Killeen ISD Honors Largest Group of Cord Recipients

Killeen, Tx (FOX 44) – More than 500 seniors received a purple and white braided cord symbolizing completion of a professional certification. These certifications were done through the KISD Career Center and ranged from teaching to video game design, robotics, culinary skills, healthcare, welding and much more. 'Wearing a purple and white cord represents not just achievement, but transformation,' said KISD Director of CTE Patrice Robinson. 'These cords symbolize your growth, the skills you gained, the friendships you formed and the meaningful experiences you have had in KISD and in Career and Technical Education.' Students were honored for their hard work and reflected on the journey they took to get to that moment. Carlos Diaz-Torres, one of the seniors receiving a cord put it simply stating, 'We learned that success doesn't come gift-wrapped, but it comes in the form of late nights, tough feedback and moments you seriously think about quitting, and I had those moments.'. The more than 500 seniors stepped across the Killeen Civic and Conference Center on Thursday to receive their cords. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. WS/FCS superintendent will retire

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Superintendent Tricia McManus announced Tuesday night that she will retire on June 30. McManus said retiring will allow her to focus on her growing family. Her first grandchild was born last summer. McManus first joined WS/FCS as deputy superintendent in June 2020 and was appointed interim superintendent that November following Angela Hairston's resignation. McManus has served as superintendent since February 2021. Deanna Kaplan, chair of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education, called McManus 'a relentless advocate for our schools.' 'She will leave our district stronger. We will miss her positive attitude. She is an all-in superintendent. There are no words to express our gratitude. We are excited for her as she moves on to this new chapter in her life,' she said. During her time at WS/FCS, McManus oversaw the district's return to in-person classes after the COVID-19 pandemic. Under her leadership, the district adopted a series of 'Future Ready' initiatives, with a focus on enhancing inclusion, a sense of belonging and deeper learning. McManus said she is proud of what the district has accomplished in the past five years, including improved proficiency in math and reading, a record graduation rate, and increases in the number of students of color taking Advanced Placement courses and taking three or more Career Technical Education credentials. Under her tenure, the district increased the number of students taking dual enrollment courses at Forsyth Tech by 68%. She also celebrated reductions in chronic absenteeism, the expansion of mental health resources available to students, and the introduction of an alternative to suspension program that led to 73% of participating students having no further discipline referrals upon returning to school. 'We have built the foundation for educational equity and excellence, and I wish nothing but the best for the future of WS/FCS. Our students are capable of so much,' McManus said. 'Please continue pouring into them every day and do not allow the many distractions to get in the way of doing what is right. No student should fall through the cracks.' On April 28, the Board of Education will hold a meeting to discuss plans for an interim superintendent. McManus will continue to work with the board through the transition period.
