Police probe launched after car is torched in Cumbernauld street in 'reckless' act

The fire on Marmion Road is being treated as wilful. Witnesses are being sought after a car was "recklessly" torched outside an address in Cumbernauld. Police say that around 9.35pm on Wednesday, August 13, they received a report of a grey Nissan Qashqai ablaze on Marmion Road. The fire was extinguished by Scottish Fire and Rescue and there were no reports of any injuries. ‌ ‌ Police confirmed the fire is being treated as wilful and said enquiries are ongoing. Detective Constable Carla O'Neill said: 'Thankfully no-one was injured, however, the consequences of this dangerous and reckless act could have been much more serious. 'I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information which could assist to contact us. 'I would also appeal to anyone driving in the area with dash-cam or anyone nearby with personal footage to please check their recordings and get in touch if it holds anything relevant.' Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 4140 of 13 August, 2025.
