Davis stabbings suspect Carlos Dominguez expected to take the stand Monday

Davis stabbing suspect to take the stand on Monday Davis stabbing suspect to take the stand on Monday Davis stabbing suspect to take the stand on Monday The former UC Davis student accused of going on a deadly stabbing spree is expected to take the stand this week. Carlos Dominguez is set to testify Monday. He has pleaded not guilty in the 2023 stabbings that left two people dead and a third injured. Legal expert Mark Reichel says putting a defendant on the stand in a high-profile case like this is unique. "Anytime someone takes the stand its unusual. But I'm not saying it's a last stitch effort; it may be a very powerful tool by the defense specifical because the jury gets to hear from him and see him," Reichel said. Previously, the trial was put on pause after Dominguez was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Once the trial resumed earlier in 2025, after he was found competent to stand trial, Dominguez has remained stoic and quiet in the courtroom. "He'll get the opportunity to explain it in his own words and it's much better than your lawyer trying to explain it," Reichel said. The attacks spanned across several days, rocking the community of Davis and leaving David Breaux – known in the community as the "Compassion Guy" – and 20-year-old UC Davis student Karim Abou Najm dead. Kimberlee Guillory survived the attacks. She testified in the trial earlier in May. Among the other people who have testified in the case include a former professor of Dominguez as well as an ex-girlfriend. Prosecutors have said they will not be seeking the death penalty against Dominguez if he is convicted.

Ex-girlfriend of accused Davis serial stabber Carlos Dominguez back on witness stand

DAVIS — The ex-girlfriend of accused Davis serial stabber Carlos Dominguez was back on the witness stand for a second day of testimony Tuesday. Caley Gallardo believes her breakup with Dominguez took a toll on him and says she was shocked to learn Dominguez was the suspect in the 2023 violent stabbing spree that killed two people and injured another person. Gallardo said that during their relationship, she believed she saw Dominguez with a knife. On the stand, she was asked to describe how it felt when she found out he had been arrested. "I was honestly a mess. I cried a lot," she said. "It was very overwhelming, and at that point, I just told my parents they needed to come and get me and I needed to get out of the area." The defense team first called Gallardo to take the stand on Monday, a day that also saw Dominguez's father and younger sister being called to the stand by the defense to begin the third week of the trial. Dominguez has pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity. The defense is continuing to call more witnesses on Tuesday. The prosecution called one more witness before wrapping up its case for the day.

Defense to begin introducing witnesses in Davis stabbing trial

( — Lawyers for the suspect accused in a series of 2023 stabbings that left two people dead and another injured in Davis are expected to begin introducing their own witnesses in his trial on Monday. Video Above: Week two of the Davis Trial has just concluded The prosecution in the case against former UC Davis student Carlos Dominguez spent the past two weeks of the trial bringing witnesses to the stand. So far, the court has heard from a number of people tied to the case, including the officers who arrested Dominguez, witnesses who found the bodies of the deceased victims, family members of the victims, and surviving victim Kimberlee Guillory. In late April and early May of 2023, three people were stabbed over five nights. The first two victims, David Breaux and Karim Abou Najm, died from their injuries. Guillory was stabbed twice through her tent. The trial was originally estimated to last ten weeks though proceedings are ahead of schedule. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
