Carney names Quebec MPs Leitão and Housefather as parliamentary secretaries

Canadian Politics By Quebec MPs Carlos Leitão and Anthony Housefather are among the parliamentary secretaries named by Prime Minister Mark Carney on Thursday. Leitão, a former Quebec Liberal finance minister touted as a possible cabinet minister, becomes parliamentary secretary to Industry Minister Mélanie Joly. A former chief economist with Laurentian Bank, Leitão is a first-time MP. Housefather, who won a hard-fought campaign for his fourth term as MP of the Mount Royal riding, was named parliamentary secretary to Eleanor Olszewski, the minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience. Carney said the parliamentary secretaries will 'deliver on the government's mandate for change, working collaboratively with all parties in Parliament to build the strongest economy in the G7, advance a new security and economic partnership with the United States and help Canadians get ahead.'
