Dortmund crush hosts Freiburg 4-1 in hunt for top four finish
FREIBURG, Germany, April 5 (Reuters) - Borussia Dortmund crushed hosts Freiburg 4-1 in the Bundesliga on Saturday to climb into eighth spot as the Ruhr valley club chase a top four finish and a spot in next season's Champions League, with six games left to play. Dortmund, who take on Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals next week, took the lead through Karim Adeyemi in the 34th minute and added three more after the break in a dominant second half. Carney Chukwuemeka's deflected effort in the 51st made it 2-0 before Serhou Guirassy added another 17 minutes later with an easy tap-in. Jamie Gittens's header made it 4-0 and Maximilian Eggestein bagged a late consolation goal for the hosts in the 88th, as Dortmund moved up to 41 points. Mainz 05 are in fourth place with 46, the last spot to grant automatic Champions League qualification for next season.

Kovac full of praise for "sensational" new signing after Bundesliga debut
Carney Chukwuemeka, who joined Borussia Dortmund on loan from Chelsea in the winter transfer window, finally made his Bundesliga debut for the Black and Yellows in Saturday's 6-0 win over Union Berlin after initially being hampered by a knee injury. BVB coach Niko Kovac was delighted with what he saw from the 21-year-old in the 20 minutes the midfielder was on the pitch. "Carney came on today and was sensational. We saw what he can do," Kovac told reporters after the game, adding: "The 20 minutes he played were unbelievably good. "The way he takes the ball, the way he immediately turns in the direction of play, it's unique. 'He has very good acceleration and technical ability. The guy will give us a lot of joy if he stays fit.'

Dortmund without defender Bensebaini for Sporting trip
Borussia Dortmund will be without defender Ramy Bensebaini in Tuesday's Champions League last 16 play-off first leg at Sporting. He is suffering from a muscle problem and is not travelling to Portugal, Dortmund said in a statement on Monday. New loan signing Carney Chukwuemeka, who missed the weekend Bundesliga defeat by VfB Stuttgart, is back in the squad though and earlier trained with coach Niko Kovac and team mates. Last season's runners-up face a play-off having failed to finish in the top eight of the new league format.

Chelsea left-back Caleb Wiley close to joining Watford on loan
Watford are close to concluding a loan deal for Chelsea left-back Caleb Wiley. Chelsea signed the USA international from Atlanta United for a fee of around £8.5million in July and then loaned him for the season to BlueCo-owned Strasbourg in Ligue 1. The Athletic reported earlier this month that Chelsea have been considering ending his spell at the French club in order to free up a spot for Carney Chukwuemeka to be loaned there for the rest of the season instead. Advertisement Strasbourg already have the maximum three players that you are allowed from one club as they also have midfielder Andrey Santos and goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic from Chelsea. Championship side Watford are one of a number of English clubs to have expressed an interest this month in Wiley, who has made just six appearances for Strasbourg due to a shoulder injury sustained in November. Watford are now in advanced negotiations with Chelsea and are very hopeful of getting a deal agreed soon. ()
