Wilson Phillips singer Carnie Wilson admits her 'sexy' UNCLE from The Beach Boys gave her 'butterflies'
Singer Carnie Wilson was taking a walk down memory lane, when she admitted something interesting about a member of her family. The Hold On singer, 57, whose daughter Lola is launching a singing career, admitted to getting 'butterflies' when she was around her late uncle Dennis Wilson who was with The Beach Boys. 'He was always, like, this mysterious, sexy man, and he was my uncle,' she told Smashing Pumpkins lead singer Billy Corgan, 57, on his The Magnificent Others podcast on Wednesday. 'But like, I'd get butterflies around him,' she said of her time with Dennis who died when she was only 15, 'He's very handsome. He was very sensitive. They all three had big, big talent.' Carnie is the daughter of Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson, 82, and Dennis, like her father, struggled with drug and alcohol abuse. He was reported to have been drinking heavily before he jumped from a boat into the cold ocean waters in Marina Del Rey, CA and drowned on December 28, 1983 at age 39, leaving behind a young widow and one-year-old son, Gage, now 42. The singer was also dad to Jennifer Wilson, 58, Michael Wilson, 54, Carl Wilson, 52, and Scott Wilson from previous marriages and relationships. The Beach Boys were formed in 1961 and quickly reached fame with their song Surfin' USA. Their struggles were reported in the 2024 documentary The Beach Boys. Carnie, who reached her own fame as a singer with sister Wendy Wilson, 55, and childhood friend Chynna Phillips, 57, also praised her uncle Carl, who died from lung cancer in 1998 at age 51. 'Carl was an amazing writer, amazing singer. He really had such a great sound. He was protective,' Carnie said of the Good Vibrations artist. 'Dad just wasn't… We just weren't spending time with him,' she said of Brian, who was very reclusive due to mental health issues and is currently under a conservatorship due to major neurocognitive disorder (such as dementia,) according to court record. 'But then he said to us, "I follow you on the charts every week," so he was watching [from] behind his door. But Carl was like, "You guys just have to keep going."' Speaking of her late uncle Dennis, Carnie said, 'He was always, like, this mysterious, sexy man, and he was my uncle, but like, I'd get butterflies around him'; Pictured circa 1964 Original Beach Boy Mike Love, 84, and current members of the band will be crisscrossing the US on their Sounds of Summer Tour; Pictured in Berlin in July 2019 'I miss him very much,' the still grieving niece said of the God Only Knows singer. 'I think about him all the time, and I have pictures around my house and I feel his spirit a lot. And my dad really misses his brothers, like a lot,' she admitted. Carl provided some backup vocals for Wilson Phillips on their holiday hit Hey Santa. Wilson Phillips are still making music together and will be performing at various venues over the summer. Carnie Wilson Reveals the Real Reason Why Wilson Phillips Broke Up
Carnie Wilson opened up about the tensions that led to Wilson Phillips' split in 1993 Carnie said she would ask Wendy and Chynna if they were getting back together "every year" after they split Carnie recalled crying on the phone to their producer after the group parted ways When Wilson Phillips broke up in the '90s — it was "ego" that got in the way. On Wednesday, April 30, Carnie Wilson, 57, appeared on an episode of The Magnificent Others with Billy Corgan and revealed what ultimately led to their split in 1993. Carnie, who formed Wilson Phillips with sister Wendy Wilson and Chynna Phillips Baldwin in 1986, began by opening up about their group dynamic. "The three of us have been friends since birth. We couldn't come together with the pressure. Musically, we could come together, but spiritually and individually, inside of us was the egos." Things got "competitive" in the group. When they first got together with producer Richard Perry, who played a significant role in their success early on, their group name was "The Chynna Phillips Group" — and this "really pissed" Carnie off. "I thought to myself, 'Well wait a minute here. There would be no group if I hadn't gotten us together and had that love of harmony and said, 'Get in here and sing.' And there wouldn't be a group if Owen [Elliot] hadn't said, 'Let's record together.' I mean, there were five years where we didn't see Chynna," she said. Related: Carnie Wilson Says She Used to 'Get Butterflies' Around Late Beach Boy Uncle Dennis Wilson: 'Mysterious, Sexy Man' Meanwhile, Carnie told Corgan that she always loved "an ensemble" and "collective thinking... love... [and] energy." "I feel like that's the best way to get the most out of it. You want to be a solo artist? Great. But when it's the three of us, it's the three of us. And clearly the proof is in the pudding. That's what made the group, is the three," she said of the group, which released two studio albums before they split: a self-titled debut album in 1990 and Shadows and Light in 1992. "So when there was this, 'I want to stick out, I want to go solo,' yeah, it upset me," she continued, referencing Chynna's decision to go solo after the group split. "I had to accept it. I remember crying on the phone to [producer] Glen [Ballard] saying, 'How could somebody walk away from something so successful?'... It hasn't ended. I couldn't get over, I couldn't get past the shock." After the group parted ways, Carnie said she would asked Chynna, 57, and Wendy, 55, if they were going to get back together "every year" — but the answer was always "no." Carnie, Wendy and Chynna's story began after their parents, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys and John Phillips of the Mamas and Papas, hit it off at a basketball game in 1968. 'I used to go over to their house almost every single weekend, and we would play and sing and dance and put on shows and hang out together and swim. They became just a real fabric of my life.' After their split in 1993, they reunited in 2004 to record California. Then, in 2010, they reunited with Ballard for their first Christmas album, Christmas in Harmony. Two years later, they recorded Dedicated, a covers album showcasing songs by Beach Boys and Mamas & the Papas. Now, the women of Wilson Phillips continue to perform live together, with their latest performance at an afterparty for 90s Con at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, Conn., in March. 'I'm so proud of him for being the survivor he is and the contribution to music,' she said. He is so grateful to the people that love his music and the lives that he's touched and he's aware of it all.'

Carnie Wilson defends daughter from 'cruel' nepo baby comments following 'American Idol' audition
Carnie Wilson is not taking the "nepo baby" negativity surrounding her daughter Lola Bonfiglio's "American Idol" audition lightly. On March 23, Bonfiglio was joined by her famous family, including her mother Carnie, aunt Wendy Wilson and father Rob Bonfiglio during the audition. The group performed the iconic Wilson Phillips song "Hold On" together before Bonfiglio sang by herself. She received a golden ticket, which moved her through the audition round and onto Hollywood week, but some "American Idol" fans were not happy with the judges' decision, claiming that she only got to move forward on the show because of nepotism. On March 30, Carnie and her Wilson Phillips bandmates attended a "Music of the 90s" panel in Connecticut and addressed the negativity that Bonfiglio had received since her audition, saying some of the comments about her daughter "pissed" her off. Per People, Carnie told the crowd during the panel that Bonfiglio's audition was the "scariest thing she has ever done." "She was trembling with nerves," she noted. "We're human, and the Internet is so cruel, and the comments are really pissing me off, and I can't respond," Carnie explained. "Would you encourage a doctor's son not to be a doctor? Lola wants to be a singer, and they say these terrible things. And she was so hurt." Carnie's bandmate, Chynna Phillips Baldwin, said that she did see positive comments about Bonfiglio's performance. However, it was not enough for Carnie since the "majority" were negative. "I encourage her to do it because she loves to sing. But I'm so proud of her that she was even brave enough to audition. She sounds so beautiful. I'm so excited for her future. She has a stunning voice," Carnie said. "American Idol" posted Bonfiglio's audition on Instagram. The comments were mixed with both negative and positive remarks on her performance. "Brian Wilson's granddaughter, huh? There's a word for that I think…." one user wrote, noting that Bonfiglio is related to The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson. Another added, "Seems like a sweet girl but her voice is nothing special…American idol is for people who don't have celebrity parents/influence!! Looks very pushy to allow her famous mother and aunt to sing with her!!" "Tired of the nepo babies on the show, let's see real talent without famous family members!!" another person wrote. A fourth user commented, also pointing out Bonfiglio's family background, "Probably a lovely young woman. But with singing talent given this is a competition and not a family reunion, compared to the other talent, she is marginal at best," the user wrote. Still, there were several comments praising Bonfiglio's performance. "Such a beautiful voice and cool family moment!" one user wrote. Chynna Phillips' husband Billy Baldwin also left a sweet message for Bonfiglio. "Way to go Lola!!! So great!!! Keep going!! So proud of you," he wrote.
