Carowinds under construction: See work on 3 new attractions

As Carowinds prepares to reopen on March 15, construction is ramping up in parts of the park for two new family rides and a much-anticipated adults-only swim-up bar. Why it matters: Carowinds expects the new 21-and-up zone, Carolina Shore Club, to add value to the season pass and diversify activities at the park. State of the play: The latest investments come after Ohio-based Cedar Fair and Texas-based Six Flags merged last year and relocated the combined company to Charlotte. What's next: All the new attractions are expected to open around Memorial Day weekend, barring weather delays. See the work so far: Carolina Shore Club Construction on Carolina Shore Club and Paul Metto's Dockside Bar inside the waterpark began a few months ago. The 27,280-square-foot area includes: A 3,577-square-foot pool. 58 shaded chaise lounge chairs. Six luxury cabanas with a TV, mini-fridge and dedicated service — two of which are "premium." A lawn area with games like cornhole and giant Jenga. Its future raft ride will be interactive with onboard and onshore water cannons. Riders aboard the eight-seater log rafts can use blasters to spray onshore guests who can also fire back. Snoopy's Racing Railway As of Monday morning, beams for the newest coaster were officially going up in Camp Snoopy. Snoopy's Racing Railway, which launches to 31 miles per hour, is described as a ride with "thrilling dips and exciting wild turns."

Carowinds will open an adults-only section of its waterpark with a swim-up bar this summer. Why it matters: Carolina Shore Club will be an exclusive section for visitors 21 and older and home to Charlotte's first full-service swim-up bar, called Paul Metto's Dockside Bar. The 27,280-square-foot area includes: A 3,577-square-foot pool. 58 shaded chaise lounge chairs. Six luxury cabanas with a TV, mini-fridge and dedicated service — two of which are "premium." A lawn area with games like cornhole and giant Jenga. What's next: Carowinds opens for its 52nd season on March 15. Later this spring, the park will unveil two new kid-friendly attractions at Camp Snoopy. The Snoopy's Racing Railway is a coaster that reaches a speed of 31 miles per hour. Charlie Brown's River Raft Blast is a boat ride equipped with water cannons.
