14-year-old girl struck and killed on scooter in Trois-Rivières, Que.
A 14-year-old scooter rider died following a collision with a van on Wednesday evening in Trois-Rivières, in the Mauricie region.
The collision occurred around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Laviolette Street and Saint-Maurice Boulevard, according to the Trois-Rivières Police Department.
'The young scooter rider was travelling west on Saint-Maurice Boulevard. She attempted to make a left turn onto Laviolette Street heading south but, unfortunately, the van travelling in the opposite direction on Boulevard du Saint-Maurice was unable to avoid her,' said Caroline Chartrand, spokesperson for the police department.
Chartrand said that patrol officers happened to be nearby and responded very quickly to begin resuscitation efforts on the young woman. The victim was transported to the Trois-Rivières hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the van was not injured.
At this time, foul play is not being considered, Chartrand said.
