Gunshots heard in downtown Montreal

An SPVM police officer gets out of his patrol car in Montreal, Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024. (Christinne Muschi/The Canadian Press) Gunshots heard near an apartment building in downtown Montreal prompted several calls to 911 early Wednesday morning. Montreal police (SPVM) says the incident happened at 3 a.m. on Drummond Street near Sherbrooke Street. 'When police arrived, they didn't locate any victims or suspects,' said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson with Montreal police. 'Following multiple searches by police officers, they found projectile impacts on the door of the building.' She notes that several shell casings were also found on the ground. 'A suspect would have been seen firing the gunshots before fleeing on foot,' said Chèvrefils. A perimeter has been set up to allow investigators to better understand what happened.
