Gunshots heard in downtown Montreal

Gunshots heard near an apartment building in downtown Montreal prompted several calls to 911 early Wednesday morning.
Montreal police (SPVM) says the incident happened at 3 a.m. on Drummond Street near Sherbrooke Street.
'When police arrived, they didn't locate any victims or suspects,' said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokesperson with Montreal police. 'Following multiple searches by police officers, they found projectile impacts on the door of the building.'
She notes that several shell casings were also found on the ground.
'A suspect would have been seen firing the gunshots before fleeing on foot,' said Chèvrefils.
A perimeter has been set up to allow investigators to better understand what happened.

No injuries reported following home fire in Gloucester: Paramedics

(CTV News Ottawa) The Ottawa Paramedic Service says no injuries were reported following a single-family home fire in the neighbourhood of Gloucester in the early hours of Sunday morning. Ottawa Fire Services says firefighters received a call shortly after 2:20 a.m. reporting smoke coming out from the windows of a home in the 4,000 block of Thunder Road. When crews arrived at the scene and saw smoke on all four sides, they asked for additional resources to be dispatched to the scene. They then started extinguishing the fire by initiating a fast attack by advancing a hose line inside the structure. Crews used a water shuttle system to bring water to the scene as there were no hydrants in the area. Firefighters say dangerous conditions forced them to evacuate out of the structure at 2:20 a.m. The fire was declared under control shortly after 3:30 a.m. Firefighters then searched the home for occupants and no one was found inside. Victim Services was called to help the affected residents. A fire truck remains at the scene to monitor for any flareups. The investigation into what led to this fire is ongoing.

Search ongoing for man who possibly drowned at Verdun Beach
Montreal police (SPVM) are searching for a man in his 20s who possibly drowned at Verdun Beach Saturday. The SPVM said it received 911 calls around 5:20 p.m. about a man in distress by Verdun Beach. He was playing a sport in the Saint-Lawrence River near LaSalle Boulevard and de l'Église Street. When they arrived, officers could not find him from the shore. SPVM divers, the Montreal Fire Department and the Canadian Coast Guard searched well into the night, police said Sunday morning. Witnesses were interviewed on-site Saturday. The search resumed Sunday morning.
