Dayton unveils newly renovated Courthouse Square

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Renovations of Dayton's Courthouse Square are now complete, just in time for the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Community members gathered at the iconic plaza at Third and Main streets Friday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the renovated Courthouse Square. WATCH: City leaders, police share NATO road closures, security info The $1.1 million makeover includes a new fountain, a re-design of benches and landscaping and expanded lighting technology for the holidays. City leaders say downtown foot traffic has been only 62 percent of what it used to be in 2019. They hope these renovations will be a step toward bringing more people downtown. While the renovation has been in the works for a while now, local leaders are excited to see the project complete ahead of Dayton welcoming new visitors. 'This community is just pulling out all the stops to get this place shining,' said Carolyn Rice, Montgomery County commissioner. 'There's new streetscapes, there's new flowers, there's new landscaping. We have murals, flags, we're going to have exhibits. It's just monumental, we're just saying welcome world, here we are.'
