The world's largest bowl of pasta, near the French Quarter!

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — March 21 may have been a lenten 'Fish Fry Friday,' but the Italian-American St. Joseph Society had an extra-large pasta for lunch. Every year, they say it's the world's largest bowl of pasta. Delicious, but hard work for the chefs! Crawfish Mania! 13 different crawfish dishes during Lent 'You have 80 to 100 gallons of the sauce, gravy, sugo. A thousand pounds of the pasta. There's many other ingredients that goes into this dish. It's a very ornate chore, and a labor of passion and love,' said Peter Gilberti, president of the Italian-American St. Joseph Society. The chefs worked on the meal for nearly eight hours, and the line to devour it stretched out the door. The Italian-American St. Joseph's parade is Saturday night, March 22, through downtown New Orleans, and starting at 6 world's largest bowl of pasta, near the French Quarter! Meteorologist Carrigan Chauvin visits Hynes-Parkview Charter School

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Third graders at Hynes Charter School are leaning all about the weather in their science classes this month. What better way for kids to understand meteorology, than talking to an actual Meteorologist! On Tuesday afternoon, Meteorologist Carrigan Chauvin headed over for a classroom visit to discuss what she does on a day to day basis in this line of work. She also showed videos and pictures of the different types of weather that she has encountered throughout her years in the industry as a broadcast meteorologist. She went over light hearted topics, such as cloud types, but also dove into a more serious conversation about severe weather. Students talked about the popular movie 'Twister' and the recent snow storm in Louisiana. Carrigan also talked about her close connection to southeast Louisiana and why it is so special for her to be working here now. Carrigan was impressed by how smart this group was! She was asked some really good questions. Some questions made her really think hard… others got her emotional… and some reconnected her to the reasons why she chose this career in the first place. Kids are good at this. Making you think outside of your day to day box. Somehow – perspectives just become simpler, and more hopeful. A few questions that Meteorologist Carrigan Chauvin remembers from the class are: 'How do YOU stay safe in a storm when you are out live in the elements?' 'Why do tornadoes happen?' And her personal favorite question…Even though Carrigan knows that every student in that class isn't going to become a meteorologist like her one day. She hopes that from their conversation… they take away the courage to follow their dreams, whatever that may be, and not be afraid of failure. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — With severe weather expected in our area on Saturday, March 15, WGNO's Hank Allen has taken to the web to answer your questions about the incoming storm. The questions being answered will be pulled from responses you provided in a Friday morning Facebook post on our page. Warm, cloudy today | Saturday storm timing According to WGNO's Carrigan Chauvin, the main round of weather will come in on Saturday, around lunch time. Expect a cold front to move toward the area by Saturday evening, causing storms to develop through the day ahead of the front. The greatest threat in our area is expected north of Interstate 12. Following the storm, however, it's looking like a cool and sunny Sunday is on its way. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Severe weather could impact whether Irish Channel Parade rolls

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Many have already marked their calendars for the Irish Channel Parade, but luck may not be on their side due to severe weather expected on Saturday, which is likely to push the parade back. 'Generally, if it was just rain. People wouldn't have an issue with that. We can all go outside and have fun and some showers, but it's a threat of severe weather. That's a bit more concerning. Severe storms roll through, we have to worry about people's safety,' said WGNO Meteorologist Carrigan Chauvin. Music, food lineup announced for 2025 French Quarter Festival Tracey's bar owner Jeffrey Carreras explains the parade is a great boost for business. 'Everybody wants to be Irish for a day. It's a big day for us. I mean, it's, you know, it's a fun day … We specifically, shortened the menu, corned beef, cabbage, roast beef po'boy what we are known for,' said Carreras. But with the parade's status up in the air, he says his only hope is to see the Irish celebration happen. 'You know, it'll happen. I don't think they're going to cancel it altogether. It's too much involved with this. Sunday, Monday is going to be a beautiful day. So St. Patrick's Day is actually Monday. So the 17th, hopefully, we get a good crowd for that,' said Carreras. Covington Celtic Club Parade rescheduled due to weather As officials with the Irish Channel Parade contemplate when the parade should roll there is a chance for the parade to go on, just on another day. 'Next weekend does look good if that's the time frame that they are looking at for rescheduling. The weekend following, like I said, we're going to see more and more of these setups next week. And following that could also be a little dicey outside given the time of year it is, situations like we're seeing this weekend will occur more often,' said Chauvin. Those with the Irish Channel Parade say if it rains they plan to walk, however with severe thunderstorms they'll reschedule.
