Fans speculate Carson Cooper is working on new part of game following recent social media post

Fans speculate Carson Cooper is working on new part of game following recent social media post Could Michigan State big man Carson Cooper be working on adding a new element to his game this offseason? Fans are speculating that to be the case following a recent photo shared by the Spartans' official social media account. Michigan State basketball is conducting offseason workouts this week, which obviously led to a few social media posts from the program's official X account. Included in one of those posts was a picture that shows Cooper lining up for a shot from behind the three-point line. This single image has generated some buzz on social media, with multiple fans responding with speculation that Cooper is working on developing a three-point shot this offseason. You can see the post from Michigan State showing what appears to be Cooper preparing for a three-point shot below: Could this be something or is it nothing? Well, this picture alone is probably nothing since every basketball player practices shots from all over the floor. So this could simply be a pure coincidence that the social media team picked a picture of Cooper in this one instance. But, it's definitely more fun and intriguing to speculate that this is the beginning of a new part of Cooper's game. You can't argue against that. For reference, Cooper has recorded only one three-point attempt in his three previous seasons at Michigan State -- which he missed this past year. So should he actually add a more frequent three-point shot to his game, that would be quite the change from what we have previously seen. For now, we can back-burner this thought. But when we get our first look at the Spartans in the fall, this will be something I personally will keep an eye out for when Cooper and Michigan State take the court for the first time. Michigan State is heading to the Elite 8, defeating Ole Miss, 73-70

Michigan State is heading to the Elite 8, defeating Ole Miss, 73-70 For the first time since 2019, Michigan State basketball is going to be playing in the Elite 8 round of the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans won one of the most grittiest games you will see in the NCAA Tournament, defeating Ole Miss, 73-70. It was one of the toughest games the Spartans will play, with Ole Miss giving them everything they could handle. A lead that got to 10 in the first half was cut to two by MSU, with the Rebels holding a 33-31 advantage at halftime. Michigan State did not gain their first lead of the game until the second half, when a pair of Carson Cooper free throws put the Spartans ahead 51-50. The game went back and forth from there. Down the stretch, Michigan State did exactly what they needed to do, getting timely stops, but also finally getting easy buckets. Jeremy Fears, Jase Richardson, Jaden Akins and Cooper all made big buckets down the stretch, just playing into the team's mantra, strength in numbers. Michigan State made their free throws down the stretch, did not make mistakes and closed out the 73-70 victory, punching their ticket for Sunday's Elite 8 contest. Richardson led the way for the Spartans, scoring 20 points, while Coen Carr scored 15 points in his homecoming. Jaden Akins had 13 points and Tre Holloman had 10, rounding out the Spartans leading scorers. MSU now awaits the winner of the other Sweet 16 game in the South Region, with Auburn and Michigan squaring off. Stay tuned for who the Spartans will play and the tip time of Sunday's game. Five takeaways from Michigan State's loss to UCLA

Michigan State basketball suffered their second straight Big Ten loss in four days on Tuesday night against UCLA. It felt eerily similar to Saturday's loss against USC, also in Los Angeles, as the Spartans defense looked fierce but the offense failed to get anything going, ending in a frustrating loss for the Spartans and their fans. Below, we put together five takeaways from the loss. Jaden Akins' second-half defense was incredible Michigan State may have lost this game, but after trailing most of the contest, some heroic, aggressive defense from Jaden Akins almost single-handedly got them back into this one. Akins also led all scorers with 15 points. Frankie Fidler has some rebounding chops It wasn't the best offensive game for Frankie Fidler, but I thought some of his six rebounds were extremely impressive and encouraging for the future of the season. The turnovers continue to be a major problem It's honestly amazing that MSU only lost by two points considering how many turnovers they had. They lost the turnover battle 16 to 3, an almost ridiculous margin, and probably would've won this game easily if they just stayed closer to their average of 10. Tom Izzo's stubborn lineups finally spurned MSU I have written about this all year, and now MSU is finally starting to pay the price for Tom Izzo's stubbornness with his lineups. Tom Izzo, who admittedly, has probably forgotten more about basketball than I will ever learn, has been insistent on playing a two-big lineup with Jaxon Kohler and either Carson Cooper or Szymon Zapala. I think Jaxon Kohler is at his best when he plays center. At power forward, in the modern game, he struggles against quicker players. Kohler had three turnovers and gave up some easy baskets on the other end. We saw the impact of this in the final moments of the game, where Kohler could not shake his defender loose, and ultimately turned the ball over on a shot-clock violation, giving UCLA the opportunity to win the game. I think playing this two-big lineup is putting Kohler in a bad position to succeed and will continue to hold this team back as long as it's used as much as it is. I do have some more thoughts on why Izzo went this route, which you can find in the next section... That was a lot of Carson Cooper Look, I know Szymon Zapala left the USC game with an injury. That being said, you are either good enough to play, or you're not. Tom Izzo decided that Zapala could play on Tuesday night, but he only played him for ten minutes. Noticing Izzo's reticence to play Zapala big minutes, UCLA coach Mick Cronin countered by playing 7-foot-3 center Aday Mara 24 minutes. This led Izzo to play Carson Cooper 30 minutes, by far the most on the team, and twice as many as his average. I am a fan of Cooper and think he's a great rotation big, but MSU asked way too much of him on Tuesday night, and Cooper had three costly turnovers as UCLA attacked him every time he had the ball.
