TOKYO -- The technical and market support Apple provides to app developers on its platform has helped expand the app market, Carson Oliver, head of the Global App Store, argues, defending criticism that the fees it charges developers are too high.
Legislation in Japan taking effect in December will require tech companies to let competing apps access their app stores and allow outside payment systems. While the Japan Fair Trade Commission prepares to release implementation guidelines as early as this month, Oliver, speaking to Nikkei during a visit to Japan to participate in a dialogue event with Japanese app developers such as Mixi and The Pokemon Co., reiterated the importance of Apple's App Store in providing support to developers and security for users.
