Carthage Tech Center awards top honor to 100+ seniors

CARTHAGE, Mo. — The Carthage Technical Center awards more than 100 seniors with its highest honor. 107 seniors, to be exact, earned their state-recognized career and technical education certificates during CTC's annual awards night. As part of the honor, the students will wear a black cord on graduation night. Students studying in 12 different careers earned a total of 526 industry-recognized credentials — and completed more than 14-thousand hours of work-based learning. 'It's a neat chance to highlight what they've done, because maybe they haven't excelled in your normal academic course work, but they found their passion in a career and technical education program, and it's a chance to kind of spotlight them and their accomplishment,' said Dr. Gage Tiller, CTC Director. This is what I've been looking forward to, honestly, probably since I actually started it, as well as just to kind of, helps me reflect back on the last 4 years and I feel like the tech center, and everything that's been in this building and the course, has really led me to this point, so it's real exciting,' said Maddix McCahon, CTC Computer Science Student of the Year. 'Means I accomplished all the things I wanted to do. I get to see all my friends and all the things they've accomplished with this. And, just, see our hard work be represented,' said Kailie Layman, CTC CNA Student of the Year. Commencement for Carthage seniors will take place on Thursday, May 15. Area seniors celebrate project milestones ahead of graduation

CARTHAGE, Mo. — With graduation approaching, some local seniors are putting the finishing touches on big projects. Today in Carthage, some involved in 'Project Lead The Way' got the chance to show off their work. Today marks the culmination of a four-year journey for seniors at the Carthage Technical Center. 'I've just been really excited to do my own project, and now that I've been able to do I,t I'm hoping that some freshmen are able to ask the same questions and get the same hype that I did,' said Damien Pauley, Carthage senior – PLTW engineering. 'We've worked hard to come up with these products and the research behind it,' said Maggie Boyd, Carthage senior, PLTW biomedical 'They've put together what they've learned in the last four years. And what they've accumulated in math and science, Mr. Barr's physics class. And they've put it all together to solve this problem,' said Chad Campbell, PLTW engineering instructor. These students are part of the Project Lead The Way pathways in the CTC which include biomedical and engineering. 'My project was the para park, which would help people with parallel parking. So what we did was we had a device that would hook into the tail hitch of a vehicle, and then that would lift up the backend of a vehicle. Pull up, you can easily lift the backend, put it down, and you're easily parallel parked,' said Pauley. 'I based my project off of people with auto-immune diseases and chronic illnesses that have restricted diets. So, I worked on a product that would help expand people's diets without increasing the negative effects,' said Boyd. When asked how their project helped them prepare for their future, they had nothing but good things to say. 'I'm majoring in biomedical science next year. So, creating a product that relates to the science is always good for me,' said Boyd. 'Even if you're not going into engineering, it helps with problem solving and communication. Because you need to work with people the entirety of the course,' said Pauley. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. SW Missouri vo-tech programs receive big boost for equipment upgrades; See the breakdown

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — Some southwest Missouri vo-tech programs are getting a financial shot in the arm. As we reported Wednesday, the Carthage School District is one of six recipients of grant funding. The Carthage Technical Center is getting tens of thousands of dollars to support manufacturing students. The Community Foundation of the Ozarks awarded more than $47,000 to buy upgraded equipment. The CTC director says this speeds up a process they had already been working toward. And lets us phase some of these things in quicker than originally planned, rather than it being a multi-year phase-in thing,' said Gage Tiller. Other school districts will also benefit from the Schilling Technical Education Grants. Golden City gets $50,000 for an animal science lab, while Lamar's grant totals $31,000 for auto and carpentry classes. The Webb City School District will get $7,500 for drone technologies.
