Kate Middleton Wears Her Royal Wedding Earrings to First Garden Party After Cancer Treatment

Kate Middleton wore her royal wedding earrings during her triumphant return to the garden party circuit on May 20 Princess Kate did not attend any garden parties in 2024 after reducing her duties to focus on her health while receiving treatment for cancer The Princess of Wales said in September 2024 that she completed chemotherapy and announced in January that she is in remissionKate Middleton sparkled in a sentimental accessory during her royal return to the garden party circuit after undergoing treatment for cancer last year. On May 20, the Princess of Wales, 43, stepped out with Prince William to help host a garden party at Buckingham Palace, where she brought the sunshine by wearing a yellow Emilia Wickstead dress with a matching Philip Treacy hat. It was Princess Kate's first garden party since May 2023 as she reduced her royal duties last year to focus on her health while receiving cancer treatment, and she sported one of the most meaningful pieces of jewelry in her collection: the earrings from her royal wedding. The Princess of Wales shimmered in the diamond Robinson Pelham earrings she wore for her walk down the aisle to marry Prince William in April 2011 and drew attention to them by pulling her hair back in a chignon. The Robinson Pelham earrings were a custom gift from her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, and feature oak leaves with a pear-cut diamond drop and suspended diamond acorn at the center. Oak leaves and acorns were incorporated into the glittering earrings to reflect the same symbols within the coat of arms granted to the Middleton family shortly before William and Kate's wedding. The earrings were also designed to complement the Cartier Halo Tiara which Kate borrowed from Queen Elizabeth for her bridal style. Princess Kate has worn the Robinson Pelham earrings just a few times following her 2011 wedding, including to the Order of the Garter Service in 2016 and on Easter in 2019. Reaching for them again for her garden party return was a poignant choice that doubled as a romantic nod, as the Prince and Princess of Wales recently celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary on April 29. The Princess of Wales appeared to be in her element at the palace garden party on May 20, where she and William were joined by Prince Edward, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, Birgitte, the Duchess of Gloucester, Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall. The British royals have held garden parties since the 1860s as a way to thank outstanding community members and meet people from all walks of life, and Princess Kate seemed to be in good spirits as she mingled with guests on the palace lawn. Kate was outside of the limelight for most of 2024 after sharing that March that she was undergoing treatment for cancer. She said in September that she completed chemotherapy and announced in January that she is in remission, resuming royal work in full force since. Prince William and Princess Kate spent time one-on-one with the family of Liz Hatton at the garden party, connecting with the loved ones of the late teen photographer.
