Jennifer Aniston's Stalker Deemed ‘Mentally Incompetent' To Stand Trial

Last Updated: The accused, Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, crashed his car through the gates of Aniston's home in Los Angeles. In a fresh development surrounding actor Jennifer Aniston's stalking case, the accused, Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, has been deemed mentally incompetent to stand trial. The decision was taken by the Los Angeles County mental health court after a second opinion about Carwyle by the psychiatrist. The court reached the same conclusion as earlier, believing that Carwyle's mental state does not allow him to respond to the felony charges of vandalism and stalking. This means all the current charges, along with the proceedings against the offender, have been suspended for now. 'The court finds the defendant is not currently competent to stand trial. Criminal proceedings will remain suspended," said Judge Maria Cavalluzzi. Earlier last week, the second opinion was sought by the public defender following the evaluation of the Mississippi man being 'incompetent to stand trial." Carwyle continues to plead not guilty, even after appearing for his third hearing. While he previously appeared with bare shoulders, wrapped in a blanket-like smock meant for suicide prevention, the third hearing saw him in the bright yellow county jail outfit. With the trial paused, the hearing moved to allow Carwyle to begin a routine of medication for his condition. If convicted on the charges, he could have been given up to three years in prison. Meanwhile, the judge has also ordered more comprehensive mental evaluations to help determine where and how the defendant will be held and the details of his treatment. The judge has asked for the report on the results at a June 26 hearing, where Aniston or her attorney will present their side of the case. Jennifer Aniston Stalking Case Earlier this month, Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, of New Albany, Mississippi, was accused of crashing his car through the gates of Aniston's home in Los Angeles. Carwyle was also charged with stalking and vandalism. Jennifer Aniston's attorney claimed that he had repeatedly sent her voicemail, email, and social media messages for over two years. As per reports, the collision caused major damage to the property, and the actress was present at home at the time. One of her security guards stopped him in the driveway and informed the police. Later on, the court ordered Carwyle to keep a safe distance from Aniston. 'You are not to have any contact with Jennifer Aniston under any conditions," the judge said in a previous hearing. Jennifer Aniston is best known for her performance as Rachel Green in the popular TV sitcom, Friends. First Published:

Aniston 'stalker' found mentally incompetent for trial

A man accused of stalking Jennifer Aniston and crashing his car through her front gate is mentally incompetent to stand trial, a judge has ruled. The move in a Los Angeles County mental health court came after a second psychiatrist examined the defendant, Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, and reached the same conclusion as the first: that his mental health would not allow him to answer to felony charges of vandalism and stalking of the Friends star. "The court finds the defendant is not currently competent to stand trial," Judge Maria Cavalluzzi said. "Criminal proceedings will remain suspended." Carwyle, 48, of Mississippi, has pleaded not guilty. He appeared behind glass in a custody area of the courtroom and did not speak. He looked vastly different than his previous two court hearings. His scraggly grey hair and beard had been shorn, and he was wearing bright yellow county jail clothing after previously appearing with bare shoulders, wrapped in a blanket-like smock meant for suicide prevention. Carwyle had argued that he is competent, and exercised his right to a second opinion after an initial incompetence finding last week. "It's not the outcome my client would have preferred," Deputy Public Defender Robert Krauss told the judge. A conviction on the charges, along with an aggravating circumstance of the threat of great bodily harm, could bring up to three years in prison for Carwyle. The incompetence finding has no set end date but it is temporary, and the standard criminal process could resume later. Cavalluzzi ordered more comprehensive mental evaluations to help determine where and how he'll be held, and what his treatment will be. The judge also said a lawyer representing Aniston would be allowed to speak at the next hearing. Carwyle's next court date is June 26. Aniston's lawyer, Blair Berk, was in the courtroom observing on Thursday, but did not speak. He declined comment outside court. Prosecutors allege Carwyle had been harassing Aniston with a flood of voicemail, email and social media messages for two years before driving his Chrysler PT Cruiser through the gate of her home in the wealthy Bel Air neighbourhood of Los Angeles on May 5, causing major damage. A security guard stopped him in her driveway until police arrived. Authorities said Aniston was home at the time, but did not come into contact, and no one was injured. Jennifer Aniston's alleged stalker found mentally incompetent to stand trial for 2nd time

The man accused of ramming his car into the gate of actress Jennifer Aniston's Bel Air home has been found not mentally competent to stand trial, for a second time. This now delays the criminal proceedings for Jimmy Wayne Carwyle while he undergoes treatment. Just last week, a different psychiatrist previously determined he was mentally incompetent to stand trial, now a second doctor has confirmed that. Carwyle has been accused of stalking the 'Friends' actress since March of 2023. Prosecutors said the 48-year-old Mississippi resident repeatedly harassed her, leaving her unwanted voicemails, and sending her messages over social media and email. On May 5, he was arrested for allegedly stalking and crashing his car through the front gate of 'The Morning Show' star's home. Aniston was reportedly home when this happened. Carwyle has been charged with felony stalking, vandalism and more for the incident. If convicted, he could face three years in prison. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
