Man hospitalized after Cary home explodes; investigation underway
CARY, Ill. (WGN) – A man was injured after a home in Cary reportedly exploded Sunday afternoon. The Cary Fire Protection District said just after 1:30 p.m., crews were sent to the 6700 block of Pheasant Trail in unincorporated Cary for a reported house fire and possible explosion. When crews arrived, they found a single-family home with visible signs that it had exploded, as doors and windows had been blown of front and rear of the home. Smoke was also coming from multiple areas of the home, according to investigators. Fire erupts at Northwest Side school overnight Officials said a man, the only person inside the home at the time, was found on the ground outside the home and had significant burn injuries sustained as a result of the explosion. Due to the severity of the man's injuries, officials said a medical helicopter was requested to the scene, but no helicopters in the area were available, so an ambulance took the man to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington for treatment. Firefighters got the fire under control just before 2:15 p.m., but the home and its contents are considered a total loss. No adjacent homes were damaged. What we know Emergency crews were called around 1:32 p.m. to the 6700 block of Pheasant Trail, where they found a small single-family home showing signs of an explosion. Doors and windows had been blown off the front and back of the house, and smoke was coming from several areas, according to a statement from the Cary Fire Protection District. A man, identified as the only person inside the home, was found on the ground outside with significant burn injuries. A medical helicopter was requested, but none were available in the region. He was transported in critical condition by ambulance to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. No additional victims were found inside. The fire was under control shortly after 2 p.m., but crews remained on scene for extensive work due to heavy fire damage. The home and everything inside were considered a total loss. Nearby houses were not damaged. Video provided to FOX 32 captured a loud bang and debris flying into the street shortly after the explosion. Another video showed a Nicor truck and multiple emergency vehicles at the scene. The public was asked to stay away while crews responded. "We're asking the public to avoid the area so our crews can operate safely and without obstruction," the post said. Officials say natural gas may have been involved, and the Cary Fire Protection District is working alongside the Illinois State Fire Marshal's office and Nicor to determine what happened. House explosion in Cary, Illinois, leaves man in critical condition
A man was left in critical condition Sunday in a house explosion in Cary, Illinois, northwest of Chicago. At 1:32 p.m. Sunday, the Cary Fire Protection District was called for a house explosion in the 6700 block of Pheasant Trail in unincorporated Cary. A crew found a house with doors and windows that had been blown off in both the front and rear, and smoke showing from multiple areas. A man, who was the only one who lived in the house, was found on the ground outside. He had suffered significant burn injuries, the fire protection district said. The fire protection district called a working fire response. Meanwhile, a medical helicopter was called to the scene to transport the injured man to the hospital, but no helicopters were available, the fire protection district said. An ambulance came instead, and took the man to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington in critical condition, the fire protection district said. The fire was brought under control about 40 minutes after crews arrived. The whole interior of the house was severely damaged by fire and is a total loss. No one else was injured, and no adjacent homes were damaged.
