A North Carolina woman has her sights set on her 'dream car' after snagging a million-dollar lottery prize. Pamela Noel of Garner was left speechless by the $1 million win after initially thinking she'd only won $2,000 on the $1,000,000 Cashword scratch-off game, according to a May 27 news release from the North Carolina Education Lottery. Noel told lottery officials it wasn't until she claimed her prize that she realized she was a big winner. 'It was mind blowing,' she told officials. 'I am still in a daze.' Lottery officials didn't say where Noel purchased the winning ticket, which cost $10. She beat odds of 1 in 1,210,185 to take home the top prize, according to the lottery's website. Noel claimed her winnings May 23 and chose a lump sump payout of $600,000, taking home $430,503 after taxes, lottery officials said. 'That is awesome,' she told officials after receiving her check. Noel said she plans to pay a few bills and buy her dream car: a Hyundai Genesis, according to the lottery. Two top prizes worth $1 million are still up for grabs in the $1,000,000 Cashword game, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery. Garner is a less than 10-mile drive south from downtown Raleigh.

Cashier hands man wrong lottery ticket – and now he's a millionaire in Michigan

A Michigan man became a millionaire after a store clerk handed him the wrong lottery ticket. The 45-year-old man went to Speedway in Paw Paw to buy a lottery ticket, according to an April 21 news release from the Michigan Lottery. He said he only plays Cashword games occasionally and it was 'totally a fluke' that the cashier gave him one. 'I asked the cashier for a different game, and she mistakenly handed me this Major Cashword ticket instead. When she realized she gave me the wrong ticket, she offered to give me the game I'd asked for, but I told her I would just keep the Major Cashword ticket instead,' he said. The man waited until the next morning to scratch the barcode on the $20 ticket, then his wife scanned it on her lottery app, he told lottery officials. 'When $1 million came up on the screen, I felt like I couldn't breathe! I thought it was some sort of prank at first. Once I realized it was real, I put the ticket in a jar and buried it in the yard because I was so paranoid something would happen to it if I kept it in the house,' he said. The man chose to receive a one-time lump sum payment of about $634,000, instead of annuity payments for the full amount. He said he 'plans to pay bills, pay off his home, and save for retirement.' Paw Paw is about a 60-mile drive southwest of Grand Rapids.

Ticket mistake earns Michigan man a $1M lottery prize

April 21 (UPI) -- A Michigan man said a store cashier's mistake turned out to be lucky when the scratch-off lottery ticket he didn't ask for turned out to be a $1 million winner. The 45-year-old Van Buren County man told Michigan Lottery officials he asked for a specific scratch-off lottery ticket at the Speedway gas station on South Kalamazoo Street in Paw Paw, but the clerk instead handed him a Major Cashword ticket. "I play Cashword tickets occasionally, but purchasing this ticket was a total fluke," the player said. "I asked the cashier for a different game, and she mistakenly handed me this Major Cashword ticket instead. When she realized she gave me the wrong ticket, she offered to give me the game I'd asked for, but I told her I would just keep the Major Cashword ticket instead." The man said the decision proved fortuitous. "The next morning, I scratched the barcode and my wife scanned the ticket on her lottery app. When $1 million came up on the screen, I felt like I couldn't breathe! I thought it was some sort of prank at first," he said. The winner had an unconventional method for keeping his prized ticket safe. "Once I realized it was real, I put the ticket in a jar and buried it in the yard because I was so paranoid something would happen to it if I kept it in the house," he said. The winner said his prize money will go toward paying off his house, paying bills and saving for retirement.
