Fort LeBoeuf's Cassidy Conn completes sweep of Great Lakes Junior Golf majors in 2025
WATERFORD — Cassidy Conn said she didn't play particularly well during this summer's match play tournament for the Great Lakes Junior Golf Tour. Fort LeBoeuf's junior-to-be still won. Conn offered a similar assessment of her performance after the tour's stroke play competition. Her result also was a victorious one. Nor was Conn outwardly excited after the tour's July 29 season-ending event. An event she won by seven strokes. Such downplayed opinions suggest Conn's best golf for 2025 still awaits. Which should cause a collective shudder for District 10 returnees who seek to end her status as its reigning Class 3A medalist. 'These (wins) all mean a lot,' Conn said. 'They give me a lot of confidence going into the new season.' Conn spoke from The Ridge Golf Club's outdoor deck, where she received the tournament's trophies for its girls age 19-under division. Her 36-hole score of 5-over par 149 was seven fewer than Fairview returnee Moira Erhartic, a member of the Tigers' 2024 PIAA Class 2A state champions. Bradford's Payten Leet, a former District 9 gold medalist, was third at eight strokes back. 'Now I know (going forward) that I can beat really good players,' Conn said. The Knox resident, a junior-to-be for Keystone High School, was the only player with a red number after two rounds. Karg, highlighted by three birdies during his back nine, returned to the clubhouse at 7-under 135. New Castle's Rocco Bautti followed at 142. Cooper Wierzchowski posted the division's best score by a northwestern Pennsylvania golfer. The recent Cathedral Prep graduate was third at 143, which included a second-round 69. Karg not only got a win, but an added bonus for his efforts. 'This got me off work for two days,' he said. Karg is employed at Clarion Oaks Golf Course when he's not playing it on his own time. Titusville's Lukas Miller (boys 15-under) and Brantley Savitz (boys 12-under) were the other age division victors. Miller, in his trademark red shirt and white floppy hat, shot 146. Savitz returned to his southeastern Crawford County home at 2-over 73 for two nine-hole rounds. What's next The 2025 Great Lakes Tour concluded less than a week before PIAA teams are permitted to start practice for their new season. State rounds can officially start Aug. 7. Prep's boys will be at State College that same day. The Ramblers will participate in the season-opening Happy Valley Invitational at Penn State University's Blue and White Courses. Cassidy Conn and Connor Laird claim Great Lakes Junior Golf Tour's match play titles
CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS — Cassidy Conn took the fifth on July 3. It had nothing to do with legal self-incrimination for the Fort LeBoeuf student. It did, though, have everything to do with the hole number where she clinched first place for the girls bracket of the Great Lakes Junior Golf Tour's Match Play Tournament. Advertisement Conn, a junior-to-be for the Bison, won that portion of the two-day competition with a shot both dramatic and abrupt. She defeated Cora Hirz 2 and 1 thanks to a chip-in birdie on Riverside Golf Club's par-4 fifth hole. Conn, a Fort LeBoeuf student, defeated Cora Hirz 2 and 1 in the girls final for the Great Lakes Junior Golf Tour's Match Play Tournament. Connor Laird, like Conn, was victorious by the final match score. The Cathedral Prep returnee defeated Meadville's Luke Ferry for first place in the boys bracket.
