Catch classic movies under the greenhouse canopy at SAMA Garden

It's not quite the end of summer, but the heat has slackened just enough to entertain the idea of sitting outside – not to sweat, but to settle in. On August 1-3, SAMA Garden offers a three-night escape from the indoors, swapping streaming queues for open-air screens beneath a gently lit dome and a canopy of leaves. What's on offer is less about spectacle and more about atmosphere. A garden cinema, framed by soft lights and easy company, where you're welcome to bring a date, a friend or even your dog (they've thought of everything – there's a pet-friendly zone with ample space for snoots and tails). Each ticket, priced at B550, includes a film, a snack-and-drink bundle and access to what may be the most indulgent detail of the evening – a complimentary 15-minute massage, courtesy of Divana, available only for those who register via Line@SAMA Garden at least a day before. The screening schedule leans into comfort. No high-stakes thrillers, no sudden death. Just gently plotted narratives, a bit of romance, a touch of nostalgia and the occasional tear. Film schedule Friday August 1, 6:30pm - The Intern Ben, a retired widower full of life, signs up as a senior intern at a booming fashion startup founded by the ambitious Jules. He's not just there to learn the ropes, but soon becomes a quiet force of wisdom and warmth for everyone around him. Saturday August 2, 5:30pm - 10 Things I Hate About You Kat is a beautiful and intelligent girl, which means that not many men are interested in her. Unfortunately, her younger sister, Bianca, is forbidden from having a boyfriend before her. Therefore, a little plan is needed to help the older sister experience love for the first time. The path of Kat and the handsome young man Patrick finally crosses, but the question is, will she open her heart to him? Saturday August 2, 8.40pm - Cast Away Chuck, a fast-paced executive, finds himself stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash. In solitude, with only a volleyball for company, he battles the rawest forces of nature – and his own mind. Sunday August 3, 7:30pm - Wonder Auggie, a boy born with facial differences, steps into school for the very first time. In a world full of stares and whispers, he navigates challenges, makes unexpected friendships, and teaches everyone around him a powerful lesson in compassion. Sunday August 3, 8:40pm - The Notebook Noah and Allie fall in love during the summer, but their romance is hindered by Allie's parents due to their different social status. At the same time, Noah has to serve in World War II. Afterward, Allie meets Hammond Jr., a wealthy young man, and she prepares to marry him. Will fate bring them back together?

7 movies and TV shows filmed in Fiji, from Cast Away to Love Island

The 2004 Fijian film The Land Has Eyes is special. It is the only feature film to date from the island of Rotuma, whose indigenous people have a distinct language and culture from mainland groups of Fiji. The story is based on the local legend telling of a young Rotuman girl (Sapeta Taito) who plots revenge after her father is accused of theft by a neighbour. New Zealand's Rena Owen stars as Warrior Woman in the film, which landed a Premiere Festival Prize for best overall entry at the 2005 Waiora Māori Film Festival in New Zealand. 2. Cast Away A still of Wilson with ice cream from the new Tourism Fiji campaign. Photo / Tourism Fiji 'You know the movie is good when you create an emotional connection with a volleyball.' So read a popular comment on YouTube. And it's true. Filmed on Monuriki Island off the coast of the mainland, Viti Levu, the story is about FedEx executive Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks) surviving on his own on a deserted island for four years after his plane crashed in the Pacific Ocean following a storm. The scene of a dishevelled Noland screaming out, 'Wilson! Wilson! I'm sorry!' as he desperately swims towards the blood-stained volleyball floating adrift broke many hearts, etching its way as an iconic moment in contemporary cinematic history. 3. The Blue Lagoon series The survival-romance trope is one that Fiji can't, or won't, shake off. Adding to its list are The Blue Lagoon (1980) and the sequel, The Return of the Blue Lagoon (1991). The first Randal Kleiser film, based on the 1908 novel by Henry De Vere Stacpoole, follows the tale of two young cousins and the ship's cook marooned on an island in the Yasawas, left to fend for themselves in the 19th century. Its sequel has a similar plot involving two young children and a romance that transpires between them as they grow older. This one was filmed in Taveuni, also known as the Garden Island of Fiji, which is home to the rare tagimocia flower, as well as Turtle Island. 4. Love Island USA The popular reality dating show that's so bad it's good draws good-looking singles to a flash villa in the tropics. And it has favoured Fiji as its location of choice for several seasons. Love Island USA launched in the Pacific Harbour at the Villa Takali. After a three-year hiatus, the show returned to Fiji from season five in the Mamanuca Islands, where it has been filmed since. Lying off the coast of Nadi, the archipelago comprising about 20 islands is popular as a luxury destination for tourists. One of the islands is even named Castaway, though its name precedes the film Cast Away. 5. Survivor USA When Survivor USA appeared on the telly at the turn of the millennium, reality TV was changed forever. The show made regular Joes and Sheilas famous while launching into the cultural zeitgeist. The American show, which has around 50 international versions, has had Jeff Probst as its host since launch. Contestants are dropped off on a remote island, where they are divided into two tribes. They compete against each other for rewards like food, comfort or immunity from elimination. They gather at the tribe council to take a vote on who should be eliminated, leading to a final winner claiming a significant cash prize. South Sea Island in the Mamanuca Island archipelago. Adrift The survival drama 2018 film is based on the true shipwreck story of Richard Sharp and fiancée Tami Oldham, who try to survive after their yacht capsizes amid a ferocious hurricane in the Pacific Ocean in 1983. According to production notes, more than 90% of the film was shot in the open water of Fiji, with some staging done in New Zealand. 7. The Bachelorette USA Season 7 of the American version of The Bachelorette had dentist and dance instructor Ashley Herbert seeking true love, rose by rose, in various locations in Fiji, including at the Namale Resort & Spa in Savusavu. The finale of Charity Lawson's season was also filmed in Fiji. Varsha Anjali is a journalist in the lifestyle team at the Herald. Based in Auckland, she covers travel, culture and more.

Chris Tarrant brands Phillip Scofield 'the most over-exposed man ever' and claims he 'lost the plot' after fame went to his head

Chris Tarrant has branded Phillip Schofield 'the most over-exposed man ever' and claimed her 'lost the plot' after fame went to his head. Schofield left ITV's This Morning in May 2023 after admitting to having a relationship with a much younger male colleague. And speaking to the Sunday Telegraph, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? presenter Tarrant had made her thoughts on Schofield very clear. 'There was not a hint of apology or "Maybe I was a little bit out of order", Christ Almighty,' he said. Schofield revealed he believes he thinks the former Dancing On Ice host 'lost the plot' after finding fame. 'He was the most over-exposed man ever, maybe apart from [Terry] Wogan at his peak - but Terry was on all the time because he was very good, and funny and likeable, and bright as a button,' he said. 'Schofield, they always said, "Oh, but he's a safe pair of hands." Did anyone ever say, "Ooh, it's five to eight, got to get home quick because the safe pair of hands is on?"' Schofield publicly fell out with her former co-presenter Holly Willoughby last year and was later accused of 'blaming women' for his downfall. On his comeback show Cast Away, which aired on Channel 5 in October, Schofield took aim at those 'who betrayed him' 16 months ago when he quit ITV's This Morning. One showbusiness insider told MailOnline: 'You can see what Phil is doing, he is angry and he is taking his moment in the limelight, slinging more mud while people are interested in him. 'Phil's career ended because he lied, he resigned from ITV when he lied about having an affair with a much younger colleague. To say this is Holly's fault is just ridiculous. Talk about blame the woman.' Meanwhile, friends of Holly pointed to the fact that she was entirely vindicated for her falling out with Phillip after it emerged that he had lied about his relationship with a younger colleague. Holly said in 2023 that he had been dishonest with her about the affair, as he had also been to ITV, his agent YMU and his family. He also lied to the Mail about it and admitted the truth in a statement last May. 'Phil is a self-confessed and proven liar so things he says have to be taken with a pinch of salt,' a source said: 'He lied to his colleagues, his employers and the media, let's not forget that.' The star was later labelled vindictive after texts revealed that he told Holly that she ' brought him down' shortly before he resigned from This Morning last year. Friends of the disgraced presenter claimed he sent her the accusation in a WhatsApp message and said she should have publicly supported him following their fall out. He then blamed her for not doing so, saying it then prompted him to stand down after 21 years on the ITV show. Phillip had asked her for a public show of support such as a statement or picture together in the hope it would halt claims they had fallen out. Following rumours that they had fallen out in May 2023, Phillip left Holly devastated when he made a public statement to discuss their friendship. He said: 'The last few weeks haven't been easy for either of us. As I have said before, Holly is my rock. 'We're the best of friends – as always, she is an incredible support on screen, behind the scenes and on the phone. 'Holly has always been there for me, through thick and thin. And I've been there for her.' Friends of Holly said at the time said she was 'blindsided' by his outburst. Phillip stood down from This Morning days later on May 20. He said in a statement: 'I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can't go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love. 'So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future.' While he stepped down from This Morning, he was due to present the Soap Awards a week later for ITV and bosses at the network had given him a new prime time show.
