Professor of Music at Catawba College retires after 41 years

SALISBURY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Catawba College bid farewell to Dr. Renee McCachren, Professor of Music, who retired this spring after 41 years of dedicated service. In tribute, the community celebrated her commitment to scholarship, culture, and service. She joined Catawba in 1984 as an Instructor of Music. Rising through the faculty ranks, she was awarded tenure and was ultimately promoted to the highest faculty rank of Full Professor of Music. Her areas of teaching in the Music Department included music theory, music history and piano. She also directed the Performance Concentration and regularly offered master classes for piano students. In 2017, she was commissioned as Senior College Marshal, an honor awarded to the senior faculty member of the College. In that role, she has carried the ceremonial mace in Catawba's academic processionals, such as Commencement, for the past nine years. In her years of dedicated service, McCachren taught and influenced thousands of students, mentored numerous faculty members and composed a noteworthy and lasting legacy. Cool, cloudy Mother's Day with showers, storms into Monday

(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Happy Mother's Day weekend to all the wonderful moms! A cooler and cloudy weekend so far, and Mother's Day will be no exception. Saturday's high was only 68, and I'm forecasting mid-60s for Sunday. We've got a little rain lifting in from the south, and we'll see more of this through morning. It won't be a total washout of a morning or afternoon, but the rain will get more widespread and heavier by evening Sunday and into Monday. Get used to it — it's going to be a rainy and stormy pattern over the next few days. PINPOINT WEATHER ALERT MONDAY FOR HEAVY RAIN, POSSIBLE FLOODING AND SEVERE STORMS With showers and storms on-and-off through Tuesday, we'll get some big drought relief, however in some places it could be too much of a good thing. Flooding will be possible with up to 3-5 inches of rain in the forecast. Some higher totals can't be ruled out. Since it's been so dry, major flooding is not likely. But nuisance flooding could occur on mainstem rivers like the French Broad, Saluda, Broad & S. Yadkin. Minor flooding is possible on the Catawba. As low pressure moves slowly west of us, severe storms may develop as well, with a risk of damaging wind, hail and a couple of tornadoes Monday into Tuesday. Tonight: Scattered showers. Low 57. Mother's Day: Mostly cloudy with showers & storms, mainly toward evening. High 66. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
