Meals for healthy aging now easier when dining out

Catch Table teams up with geriatrics professor to promote slow-aging meals Restaurant reservation platform Catch Table announced Sunday that it has partnered with Jung Hee-won, a professor in the division of geriatrics at Asan Medical Center and a prominent advocate of slow-aging diets, to promote the idea that meals supporting healthy aging can also be enjoyed when dining out. Tapping into the growing trend of health-conscious eating, which emphasizes avoiding high-fat and high-glycemic ingredients that strain the body, Catch Table and Jung have introduced a set of dining guidelines to help consumers make better choices at restaurants. The recommendations aim to address the challenge that dining out presents obstacles for those trying to follow a slow-aging lifestyle due to limited healthy menu options. The guideline encourages diners to order in a specific sequence — starting with vegetables, then protein, followed by carbohydrates — to support digestion and maintain stable blood sugar levels. It also advises choosing steamed or grilled dishes over stir-fried ones to avoid excess oil and unhealthy fats, and opting for meals with wholesome ingredients such as brown rice, fish and vegetables. The app also provides a curated list of restaurants that serve healthier dishes, including Mediterranean-style options with ingredients like olive oil, chickpeas and tomatoes. 'Slow-aging starts with everyday eating habits. In particular, creating an environment where people can easily adopt these habits is important since many dine out frequently. Hopefully, the guideline can make it easier for more people to look for healthy dining choices,' Jung said in a statement. Catch Table said it plans to continue expanding its range of health-oriented dining choices by collaborating with various experts in the field.

Seoul to host '2025 Seoul Table' featuring top chefs

The Seoul Metropolitan Government will host "2025 Seoul Table" on March 23-24 at Solvit, an artificial island in Han River, offering 300 lucky citizens the chance to taste dishes prepared by some of Korea's most renowned chefs. The event, held to celebrate Seoul's second consecutive year hosting the "Asia's 50 Best Restaurants" event, will feature celebrated chefs such as Michelin 3-star recipient Kang Min-goo and star chef Choi Hyun-seok. Participants will be selected through a first-come, first-served registration process via the Catch Table app, starting at 2 p.m. on March 18. The popup will feature three sessions, scheduled at 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on March 23, and 5:00 p.m. on March 24. Tickets are priced at 40,000 won ($27.54) per person, with a limit of two tickets per individual. Multiple applications are prohibited. The event will include a variety of programs, including a welcome dinner, forum and awards ceremony. To prevent ticket resale, attendees will be required to present identification at the entrance to verify their registration. On March 23, a team of top chefs from Netflix series "Culinary Class Wars,' led by Choi Hyun-seok, will present signature dishes and cocktails made with traditional alcohol. The group includes chefs Jang Ho-joon, Yoon Nam-no, Song Hasulam, Kim Tae-sung and Son Seok-ho. On March 24, Michelin three-star chef Kang Min-goo of 'Mingles,' which is also ranked on the 2024 World's 50 Best Restaurants list, will lead the event alongside chefs Park Moo-hyun, Park Ga-ram, Lee Chan-yang, Lee Yong-woo, Lim Hong-keun, Shin Ga-young, Choi Kyu-sung and Lim Byung-jin. The chefs will serve fine dining small plates and traditional alcohol cocktails at a reasonable price. Last year's event was organized under the direction of chef Ahn Sung-jae, featuring chefs from Mosu. 'Seoul is a city rich in diverse culinary experiences, from popular street foods to high-end fine dining, and is home to talented chefs. As a global gastronomic destination, we are excited to celebrate 'Asia's 50 Best Restaurants' for the second consecutive year with this special event, and we look forward to welcoming the public to enjoy it,' said a representative from Seoul Metropolitan Government.

Chef Ahn Sung-jae's Michelin 3-star Mosu Seoul hints at reopening this month

Reservation slots for Mosu appear on restaurant reservation platform Catch Table Star chef Ahn Sung-jae's Mosu Seoul appears to be reopening later this month in Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, after a yearlong break. The reservation calendar for the contemporary fine dining restaurant appeared on restaurant reservation platform Catch Table on Wednesday afternoon. Although reservations have not opened, observers believe the Michelin-starred restaurant will likely open March 22, as the platform's page for Mosu Seoul showed possible booking dates starting that day. It remains unclear when reservations will open. A Catch Table official said more information would be "available soon," refusing to comment further. According to the app, the restaurant will only offer dinner, with a tasting course priced at 420,000 won ($289.36) per person. The corkage fee is set at 200,000 won and limited to one bottle of wine. In a recently uploaded video on Ahn's YouTube channel, the chef briefly showed the construction site of the new Mosu location on Namsan, near the Grand Hyatt Seoul. "I chose a location that is not in a busy or crowded area with a lot of foot traffic," Ahn said in the video. Also, in an interview with Esquire Korea in October last year, Ahn said Mass Studies, an architecture studio led by award-winning architect Cho Min-suk, is handling the restaurant's design and construction. Ahn opened the first iteration of Mosu in San Fransisco in summer 2015 and was given a one Michelin star in its first year. Michelin awards three stars to restaurants that offer "exceptional cuisine worth a special journey." Two-star restaurants serve "excellent cuisine worth a detour," while one-star restaurants serve "high-quality cooking worth a stop." Just two years on, Ahn's Mosu relocated to Seoul, opening in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu with investment from Korean food giant CJ CheilJedang. The restaurant was awarded a one star in 2019, two stars in 2020 and became South Korea's only Michelin three-star restaurant in 2023 and 2024. Mosu Seoul, however, temporarily closed down in February last year after Ahn decided to end the partnership with CJ CheilJedang. Ahn said the decision was made due to differences in business goals.
