Teacher Surprise Squad Celebrates Jeremy Corbell
ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – Each month, four teachers are chosen for Teacher of the Month. All four are awarded $250 sponsored by ExxonMobil and one teacher is surprised in person. This month, Jeremy Corbell of Cavazos Elementary was selected.
'I had no idea what was happening! I thought I was getting called to the principal's office,' said Corbell as he was surprised in person.
Jeremy teaches K-5 grade students in P.E. at Cavazos Elementary.
'This is my 6th year as a teacher. I've always known this is where I wanted to be,' said Corbell.
Before stepping into the field of primary education, Jeremy had a long career in sales. While dedicating himself to extensive work hours, Corbell was also fathering 3 children.
'It definitely was a good time, but I ultimately wanted a schedule that was similar to my children. I couldn't afford not spending time with my kids,' said Corbell about his transition from sales to education.
This inspired Jeremy to go back to school and get his education and teacher's certification.
Each day, he motivates the students of Cavazos Elementary to stay active by setting goals and having fun but also prioritizing physical activity.
'We make sure to drive home that physical activity is important for at least 30-60 minutes a day. They understand that and so it will follow them as they get older.'
