Gov. Abbott Orders Half-Staff Flags For Flood Victims
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott ordered flags statewide to fly at half-staff Wednesday, honoring victims of catastrophic flooding that struck during the July 4th holiday weekend. The memorial gesture reflects the gravity of Texas' latest natural disaster, as communities grapple with loss of life and widespread devastation from the floods. 'In heartfelt remembrance of those whose lives were tragically lost in the recent floods, I ordered Texas flags across the state to be lowered to half-staff,' said Abbott. 'Cecilia and I continue to pray for their loved ones as they grieve this unimaginable loss and urge all Texans to continue praying for all impacted by this devastation.' Abbott emphasized the importance of statewide solidarity in the recovery effort. 'Texas stands united in mourning and in our resolve to support those who strive to heal and recover. May God bring comfort to every family affected and strength to the thousands of first responders still working on the ground.' The flags will remain at half-staff until sunrise on Monday, July 14. On Sunday, Abbott issued a proclamation declaring a statewide Day of Prayer. He urged Texans to pray for flood victims, missing persons, affected communities, and emergency personnel working recovery operations. The governor's office released a formal letter detailing the half-staff order, encouraging individuals, businesses, and political subdivisions and entities to lower their flags 'as a mark of respect and remembrance.'

ServiceMaster recognized by Governor's Volunteer Awards
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — A Wichita Falls business is among the 17 recipients of the 41st Annual Governor's Volunteer Awards that were announced on Friday, March 20 by Texas' First Lady Cecilia Abbott. ServiceMaster of Wichita Falls was honored with the Corporate Champion Award. A release from the Office of the Texas Governor said that under the leadership of Michael Deane Albert, ServiceMaster has delivered meals weekly since September 2023, often sending extra drivers on both delivery and non-delivery days. In the past year, their team has served over 100 volunteer hours and provided 1,200 meals, exceeding the standard commitment. They have braved inclement weather, stepped in on short notice, and covered additional routes, all while providing consistent and compassionate service. 'Their dedication ensures vulnerable community members receive their meals, often sacrificing personal time to fill gaps when needed most,' the release said. There will be a reception to celebrate the award recipients during National Volunteer Month in April at the Texas Governor's Mansion. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
