Madonna ‘channels' late mother by recreating her hairstyle with brunette wig
Madonna has 'channelled' the memory of her late mother by wearing a wavy brunette wig to recreate her style. The 66-year-old singer born in Bay City, Michigan – shared a post on Instagram of her sporting the new hairdo after celebrating Mother's Day with five of her six children, and years after Madonna's mother died in 1963 from breast cancer at the age of 30, shortly after giving birth to her sixth child. Madonna captioned an image of her wearing the wig: 'I missed my mother so I channelled her… .' At the time of her mum's death, Madonna was five years old. Speaking about the impact of that loss in the Sky documentary 'Becoming Madonna', the seven-time Grammy winner said: 'It was just the greatest event of my life. It was like a part of my heart was ripped out.' She continued: 'I was forced to grow up fast and understand my mother's death, to understand the psychological, all things that were going on. It was too much for a child I think.' Madonna, who has 54.6 million followers on social media, wore the wig – reportedly done for her longtime hairstylist Orlando Pita – to resemble her mother's typical daily look. The performer is known for often referencing her late mother in her work, including throughout her recent 'Celebration Tour', which grossed $225.3 million across 81 dates. During her performance of the 2003 track 'Mother and Father', Madonna projected an image of her mother onto the stage. 'When I stepped out on the stage and looked up at my mother's face every night, I said, 'Hello,'' she told fans. She added: 'I said, 'Goodbye.' I said, 'Thank you. I hope you're proud of me.' I said, 'Please protect me and keep me sane.'' In an earlier Instagram post, the singer revealed her family had kept the severity of her mother's illness from her. 'Nobody told me my mother was dying,' she wrote. Madonna added: 'I just watched her disintegrate mysteriously, and then she disappeared, and there was no explanation except that she had gone to sleep, which explains my tumultuous relationship with sleep.' Madonna – nicknamed 'Little Nonnie' by her family – famously visited her mother's grave at Calvary Cemetery in Kawkawlin, Michigan, during the filming of Alek Keshishian's 1991 documentary 'Truth or Dare'. Her father, Silvio Ciccone, is now 93 and was married to Joan Gustafson – formerly the family's housekeeper – from 1966 until Joan's death in 2023 at age 81 from cancer. On Mother's Day, Madonna shared a photo with her children: 12-year-old twins Estere and Stella, 19-year-old Mercy, 28-year-old Lourdes Leon, and 19-year-old David Banda. Missing from the photo was her 24-year-old son Rocco Ritchie, who she had with her second ex-husband, Guy Ritchie, to whom she was married for seven years before divorcing in 2008. 'Sunshine laughter, horseback riding, soccer, and the sound of music!' Madonna wrote. She added: 'The best gift they gave me was the gift of not arguing and being loving to one another. 'When you raise children to be unique and opinionated, you also create your own debate team! 'Motherhood could never be described with a few words. Nothing can prepare you. Happy Mother's Day to all the women out there doing the heavy Lifting!'

Madonna wears wavy brunette wig to remember her mother
Madonna paid tribute to her late mother Madonna Louise Fortin Ciccone after celebrating Mother's Day recently. The 66-year-old singer decided to wear a wavy brunette wig, writing: 'I missed my mother so I channeled her...' Madonna was only five when her mom died, age 30, in 1963 from breast cancer after welcoming six children. 'It was just the greatest event of my life. It was like a part of my heart was ripped out,' Madonna recalled in Sky documentary Becoming Madonna in January. 'I was forced to grow up fast and understand my mother's death, to understand the psychological, all things that were going on. It was too much for a child I think. Last year, Madonna revealed she was kept in the dark about her mother's terminal illness. 'Nobody told me my mother was dying,' the self-made superstar wrote on Instagram. 'I just watched her disintegrate mysteriously, and then she disappeared, and there was no explanation except that she had gone to sleep, which explains my tumultuous relationship with sleep.' Each night of Madonna's 81-date Celebration Tour she would project an image of her mother during her 2003 song Mother And Father. 'When I stepped out on the stage and looked up at my mother's face every night, I said, "Hello,"' the two-time Golden Globe winner continued. 'I said, "Goodbye." I said, "Thank you. I hope you're proud of me." I said, "Please protect me and keep me sane."' Madonna's father Silvio Ciccone - who turns 94 on June 2 - was married to the family's housekeeper Joan Gustafson from 1966 until her death, at age 81, from cancer. Generations: Madonna and her mother shared the same first name Madonna will 'soon' re-release her sixth studio album Bedtime Stories and she's recording a sequel to her 2005 dance album, Confessions on a Dance Floor, with musical director Stuart Price. Madonna Teams With Shawn Levy For Limited Series About Her Life In Works At Netflix
EXCLUSIVE: Global music superstar Madonna has partnered with global streamer Netflix to tell her story. A limited series about her life and music is in early development at Netflix, with Madonna and Shawn Levy, whose 21 Laps has an exclusive TV overall deal at the platform, executive producing, Deadline has learned. A rep for Netflix declined comment. The duo, who had been discussing the project for awhile, are starting from scratch: the biographical limited series is not related to the Madonna feature biopic which was previously in development at Universal with three-time Emmy winner Julia Garner as the choice to play the Queen of Pop. More from Deadline 'Lupin 4' Confirmed By Netflix As Shoot With Omar Sy Begins In Paris Media & Tech Stocks Pop As China Tariff Tensions Thaw Netflix UK Boss Anne Mensah Rules Herself Out Of BBC Content Chief Race It is early days of development on the TV series, so it is unclear yet which period in Madonna's decades-spanning career it will focus on. Still, Garner has remained engaged — she famously appeared alongside Madonna on stage at the singer's Celebration Tour in December 2023 — and I hear the Ozark star would most likely play Madonna, subject of availability as she doesn't have a deal. (Garner would also feel right at home at Netflix where she just signed on her for her third series, an FTX limited series, following her turns on Inventing Anna and Ozark.) It is also too early to tell whether Madonna would be involved in the writing; she co-wrote the proposed feature. Teaming with Netflix and one of the streamer's most prolific TV producers, Levy, who is behind such Netflix shows as mega hit Stranger Things and limited series The Perfect Couple and All the Light We Cannot See, represents a major step in bringing Madonna's story to the screen, something she has been passionate about for years. 'I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world,' she said at the time of the Universal feature announcement in 2020. Madonna had remained committed to the idea and last November hinted on Instagram that she may be pivoting from a feature biopic to a TV series about her life. Since she dropped out of college and got on a plane for the first time in her life to pursue a career in music and dance in New York with $35 in her pocket, Michigan native Madonna has defied expectations at every turn. Certified the best-selling female music artist in history, Madonna has sold 400 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008. Her impact on society and pop culture have gone beyond her influence in the music industry as a revolutionary pop star who challenged sexism to redefine what it means to be a powerful woman in the field. Fearless and provocative, the 'Like a Virgin' singer has been outspoken on women's rights and sexuality, pushing boundaries and challenging societal norms, and a strong advocate of the LGBTQ community. Madonna is repped by CAA, Maverick Management, Untitled Entertainment and Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks. Madonna biographical series in the works
Listen to article Madonna is bringing her life's story to the screen via Netflix. As per Deadline, the popstar has partnered with the streamer to develop a biographical limited series. Madonna and Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy have boarded the project as executive producers. Deadline reported that the upcoming project has no relation to the Madonna biopic starring Julia Garner that was previously in the works at Universal. It has yet to be confirmed which period of the Material Girl singer's life the limited series will focus on. Garner, who joined the popstar on stage at the Celebration Tour in December 2023, is still rumoured to play Madonna in the new project. Although it is difficult to tell at this stage whether the Frozen singer will be involved in penning the screenplay, she did co-write the proposed feature. "I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world," she said in 2020 when the Universal feature was announced. The film, which was put on hold in 2023 due to the singer's world tour, was to follow the early life of the Queen of Pop. As per Variety, actors vying for the role included Florence Pugh, Alexa Demie, and Odessa Young, with singers Bebe Rexha and Sky Ferreira also on the list of contenders. The audition process was said to be "grueling", as the music-heavy production required an actor who could sing and dance. "The focus of this film will always be music," Madonna said. "Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories, and who better to tell it than me? It's essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision."
