Swap your half-eaten doughnuts for a fresh Krispy Kreme on National Doughnut Day

Krispy Kreme is offering a 'part exchange' programme where customers can swap a half-eaten doughnut for a new one, in a bid to remove dupes of its Original Glazed product Krispy Kreme is running a 'part exchange' programme, offering customers the chance to exchange a partially eaten doughnut from a rival brand for a fresh one from the iconic chain. Specialists will be stationed in-store to scrutinise the authenticity of the doughnuts, paying close attention to giveaways like the dough's texture, the glaze's characteristic cracks, and the doughnut's distinctive shape. On Friday June 6th, which marks National Doughnut Day, Krispy Kreme will be handing out thousands of complimentary doughnuts to those who surrender their counterfeit treats at stores across the UK and Ireland. The goal is to eliminate 'copycats' of their renowned Original Glazed doughnut. ‌ ‌ The amnesty comes on the back of a poll involving 2,000 adults, where a staggering 73% who had purchased 'imitations' of certain food and beverages expressed disappointment. Out of the 49% who admitted to buying 'dupes', 79% confessed that the experience was 'not the same,' and 72% would be willing to pay more money for an original or authentic product. A representative from Krispy Kreme remarked: "They say imitation is the ultimate form of flattery, and we have seen many copies of our iconic doughnuts over the years. But we all know a dupe is rarely as good as the real thing. Only 21% of consumers reckon knock-offs they purchase match up to the authentic product. "We want doughnut fans to enjoy the best of the best, so turn your backs on the dupes and stick with the original," added the representative. One in ten have even said they're consistently let down, and 30% sent a dupe back so they could go and get the original instead. Meanwhile, 53% have admitted they are unlikely to ever buy another dupe again after feeling let down in the past. In an entertaining development, the brand has teamed up with the queen of bars herself, Lady Leshurr, for a cheeky diss track named 'We Run This Glaze,' which takes a swing at less-than-stellar doughnuts. The rapper, who has previously taken part in Celebrity Masterchef, Celebrity SAS Who Dares Wins and Dancing on Ice, has recorded the song taking aim at 'fake' baked goods. Lady Leshurr said: "For me, an original is always the best thing, whether that's music or doughnuts. You have to remind people who the originals are, otherwise history gets rewritten by the copycats."
