Centenary names new head of counseling and health services
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Centenary College has named Jamie Wells ('13) as its new head of the Counseling and Health Information department. Wells, a Shreveport-Bossier native, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Centenary and a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Louisiana Tech University. 'Returning to Centenary in this role is nothing short of an honor,' said Wells. 'It truly means the world to me. This campus holds such a special place in my heart, and my greatest hope is to help students discover that same sense of belonging and purpose that I found in my time here. I am committed to creating a community where every student feels seen, valued, and empowered to thrive.' She became a Nationally Certified Counselor and remains involved in various counseling organizations. Wells' clinical work features a clinical trial dealing with culturally informed trauma counseling through text therapy. 'The mission of Centenary College's counseling and health services is to help students maintain physical and emotional well-being as they take on their educational goals,' the release stated. 'It is not a medical facility, but it does offer short-term counseling, which is free and strictly confidential. It also provides over-the-counter medications and medical and dental referrals.' 'Wells also will develop 'CHAT,' which is a Counseling & Health Advisory Team,' the release stated. 'She will conduct individual and group counseling sessions, and she will supervise graduate-level interns pursuing master's degrees in counseling. Throughout the year, Wells will guide and promote programming for various counseling and health topics.' Wells said she hopes to complete a doctorate in counseling supervision and education. Centenary Alumni's ‘Beast Feast' fundraiser returns
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – An annual fundraiser at Centenary College brings festival-style fun back to raise funds for the alumni association. The Centenary Alumni Association's fundraiser, 'Beast Feast: Something for Everyone', returns Saturday, April 26th, from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Jones-Rice Field at Centenary College. According to a release, this unique, festival-style event features bold, 'off-the-menu' culinary creations alongside classic southern favorites, all prepared by local cook teams. Best of all, every bite supports student scholarships at Centenary College. Centenary President, Dr. Christopher Holoman, is once again firing up the grill to roast a pig, a beloved Beast Feast tradition. Other adventurous eats include grilled pheasant, wild boar birria, and crawfish cornbread. Want a real kick? Don't miss the 'Lava Noodles' from the Pepper Pals! Traditional favorites, such as brisket, gumbo, and shrimp and grits, will also be served, along with vegetarian and vegan options to ensure there's truly something for everyone. Easter sunrise service open to community at Centenary College
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – An Easter sunrise service will be held by Centenary College with a performance by the 'Centenary College Choir and Friends.' Severe thunderstorms are possible over Easter weekend The liturgy will be led by Rev. Maddie Russo, Centenary College's chaplain and director of Christian Leadership, and Rev. Megan Stuermann of Noel United Methodist Church. 'The program will recount the final days of Jesus' passion and will usher in the celebration of the resurrection as the morning sun rises,' a press release stated. 'The Easter sunrise service is one of the oldest traditions of the Centenary Choir, dating back to the 1950s.' The service will take place on Sunday, April 20, at 6 a.m. at Hargrove Memorial Ampitheatre, known as 'The Shell' on Centenary's campus. It is free and open to the public. Centenary's 'Beast Feast' culinary festival returns
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Calling all foodies, chefs, and home cooks, Centenary Alumni Association's 'Beast Feast: Something for Everyone' is returning, and they hope you arrive hungry. The annual festival-style fundraiser features a culinary adventure for ticketholders to sample various meat, seafood, and 'off the menu' items. Vegetarian/vegan options will also be available. Centenary is still looking for cooking teams to join the fun, and compete for the chance to win the 'Best of Beast Feast' award. On April 26, professional chefs or self-proclaimed grill masters will lead teams in a competition for the award. There are four categories to choose from: Beef/Poultry/Pork, Seafood, Wild Game, and Vegan/Vegetarian. Beast Feast is a fundraiser for Centenary College student scholarships. It is held at Centenary College's Jones Rice Field, 2911 Centenary Blvd, Shreveport. Tickets are $25 in advance and $40 at the door. Children 12 and under are free. Centenary details tickets provide access to sample-sized food portions from all vendors, unlimited sodas or bottled water, and a commemorative koozie. (KTAL/KMSS)—Centenary College's second 'Magale Fest' celebrates libraries as hubs of lifelong learning, featuring an all-genre book swap, live music, food trucks, sing-alongs, and much more. Magale Fest theme 'growing together' at Centenary College of Louisiana will be free and open to the community on March 29th from 1 to 3 p.m. It will feature interactive exhibits from the Walter B. Jacobs Wildlife Refuge with live animals, storytelling by Robert Trudeau, and offerings from the Shreve Memorial Library. Several community partners, along with academic departments and student groups from Centenary, will also be involved. Centenary details Hurley School of Music's instrument petting zoo, where visitors can try out a variety of musical instruments.
