Eyewitness Weather Forecast for May 6 — May showers bring…even more May showers
HERE IS YOUR EYEWITNESS WEATHER FORECAST FOR TUESDAY, MAY 6 FROM CHIEF METEOROLOGIST JORDAN REED:
Parts of central New York—including Chenango, Otsego, Madison, and Lewis counties—are under a Flood Watch, as heavy rain and slow-moving thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight could lead to flooding! Rivers and streams are already pretty full, so any additional rain might push them over the edge. The worst of the rain should taper off around midnight, but it's a good idea to stay updated in case flash flood warnings are issued.
At the same time, there's also a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 8 PM for some of the same areas, with storms potentially bringing strong winds or hail. This messy weather is all thanks to a slow-moving storm system that will keep things unsettled into Wednesday. Once a cold front moves through Wednesday night, we'll start to see cooler, drier conditions settle in.
Even after the heaviest rain ends, a few showers could stick around overnight. On Wednesday, western New York will begin to dry out, but places like the Finger Lakes may still see some scattered storms. By Wednesday night into Thursday, most of the rain will clear out, though the Southern Tier might still catch a few showers. Things are looking mostly dry by Thursday night, thanks to high pressure moving in.
Looking toward the weekend, there's a chance of rain on Friday and Saturday if a coastal storm develops, but it should move out by Sunday. Friday will likely be cool and cloudy, but by early next week, we're in for drier, warmer weather.
