Nepalese Flood Kuwait's Homes as Filipinos and Indians Exit

KUWAIT CITY, July 20: The domestic labor market in Kuwait has undergone significant shifts over the past year, according to the latest report from the Central Statistical Administration for Q1 2025. The report reveals that around 25% of Filipino domestic workers exited the sector between March 31, 2024, and March 31, 2025 — a total of 44,085 workers. This drop contrasts with a sharp rise in the recruitment of workers from other nationalities, including approximately 21,000 Nepalese and 14,000 Sri Lankans. Nepalese domestic workers recorded the highest growth, increasing by 61%, followed closely by Sri Lankan workers. There was also a notable rise in female domestic workers from African nations: the number of Malian women doubled, while Beninese women increased by 3,737. One of the most striking findings in the report is the sharp decline in Indian male domestic workers, whose numbers dropped by over 35,000, from 248,000 in March 2024 to 212,000 in March 2025. Additionally, Sudanese workers, primarily men, have entered the top 10 nationalities working in the family sector, with 1,353 individuals now employed. In contrast, Pakistani workers have fallen off the list.
