Centre for Telangana Studies at MCRHRD awaits funds
The Centre for Telangana Studies (CTS), which was constituted and operates from the Marri Chenna Reddy Human Resources Development Institute, has not received funds to meets its objective of researching on history, heritage and culture.
Speaking to The Hindu, Capt. L. Panduranga Reddy, Head of CTS, said that funds were not released for the Centre to carry out its work. The CTS is also entrusted to develop training material on Telangana and producing documentaries and publications about the State's heritage.
'The CTS essentially deals with writing and recording, in some form or the other, the history of Telangana. How can we do this if funds are not given? So far, two papers have been published by the CTS, but there are a lot more that has to be done. All this cannot happen if funds are not given,' Capt Reddy said.
The CTS page has links to four YouTube videos that were uploaded a year ago. Publications it has funded include Itihas, a journal published by the Telangana State Archives and Research Centre from 2019 and 2021. Another publication on the IT sector of Telangana is also available.
Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, at an event on Thursday, Unwept and Unsung Heroes of Telangana, assured his intervention in the matter. 'We will go together to meet the Chief Minister. ₹5 crore is not a big issue for the government. If even a crore is given, work will start. And in six or eight months, work will be complete. It is very important that we speak about our history,' Mr. Owaisi said.
He also expressed his surprise that the event could not be hosted at the MCRHRD. 'Today's function Capt Panduranga Reddy has named Unwept and Unsung Heroes of Telangana. Firstly, I am pained that permission was not granted to host a function like this at the MCRHRD [Institute]. This is strange. I cannot understand what MCRHRD saw to not have let us done this event there. And, it is weird that a function like this cannot be done at the MCRHRD, and meat shops cannot remain open on August 15,' he said.
The event saw speakers, including Capt Reddy, and Mr. Owaisi recalling the contribution of freedom fighters like Turrabaz Khan and Maulvi Alauddin, who were instrumental in the attack on the British Residency in Hyderabad in 1857. Abid Hasan Safrani of the Indian National Army was also remembered.
