Union govt. has assured full support to develop Classical Kannada Centre in Mysuru: MP
MP for Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has said that Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar has assured the Centre's full support for the comprehensive development of the Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada (CESCK) in Mysuru. The Minister gave a detailed response in the Lok Sabha to a question raised by the MP regarding the status and development of the CESCK. According to a press release from the MP, he sought to know whether the Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada has been granted full academic and administrative autonomy, and whether any recommendations have been received from the State government or the Kannada Sahitya Parishat regarding its functioning, challenges, and autonomy. He also asked whether any proposal had been submitted to accord autonomous status to the CESCK. In reply, the Minister clarified that the CESCK, which was previously functioning within the premises of the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) in Mysuru, has now been relocated to the University of Mysore campus here following a request made by the MP. The Minister further stated that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 gives high priority to the promotion of all Indian languages, including Classical Kannada and other classical Indian languages. Steps are being taken to systematically evaluate and improve the performance of all classical language centres, including the CESCK. The Minister has assured that the Centre is committed to supporting both the intellectual and infrastructural development of the Centre of Excellence for Classical Kannada, according to the MP.

Yaduveer urges Centre to grant autonomy to classical Kannada study centre
MP for Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has urged the Ministry of Education to grant autonomous status to the Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada (CESCK), Mysuru. Mr. Yaduveer highlighted that although Kannada was declared a classical language 17 years ago, the study centre is yet to receive autonomy—an essential step for its growth and development. In a letter addressed to the Ministry, Mr. Yaduveer stressed the importance of autonomy to expand the centre's academic and research activities. He pointed out that the CESCK currently functions under the Central Institute of Indian Languages and is managed by a team comprising a project director, 11 academic staff, and 8 administrative personnel. He noted that the Centre has played a significant role in promoting Kannada through various programmes, publications, and scholarly works. However, without autonomy and infrastructure, its potential remains constrained, he argued. A key requirement for autonomy is the establishment of a dedicated building. In this regard, the University of Mysore Syndicate has identified four acre and two gunta of land near the Pump House, opposite Basavapeetha, for a permanent campus. The State government had issued an order in 2020 approving the allotment of this land. Mr. Yaduveer requested the Ministry of Education and the Department of Higher Education to expedite the release of necessary funds and provide full support for the construction of the new facility and the upgradation of the centre's infrastructure.
