MACC to probe Land and Minerals Dept
KUALA LUMPUR: Graft busters will investigate land encroachment in Pahang, especially in Raub, by focusing on the management aspect of the Land and Minerals Department (PTG). Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki (pic) said the investigation into land encroachment started in 2021. 'Given the new issues that have emerged, we will resume the investigation. We will investigate how the land encroachment was allowed to occur. 'We will investigate aspects of governance practised by PTG,' he told reporters after attending the graduation ceremony for participants of the Certified Integrity Officer Programme yesterday. Pahang Sultan Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has often spoken out against land encroachment. The Ruler said yesterday that action must be taken against those who encroached on state land. 'Don't allow anyone to encroach on Pahang's land. It is time we take firm action against them (intruders). 'Protect this land, the land of Pahang, to the best of your ability,' said Sultan Abdullah during a Hari Raya celebration in Jerantut, according to the Kesultanan Pahang Facebook page. Previously, an enforcement operation at a durian farm in Raub led to farmers voicing their dissatisfaction over the destruction of their crops. The Pahang government has denied violating a court order when it felled around 200 Musang King durian trees during the enforcement operation in Sungai Klau, Raub on April 8. On another case, Azam said the MACC is expected to submit the investigation paper on Ops Sky to the deputy public prosecutor next week. He said the investigation, which was focused on corruption and money laundering involving a financial consulting firm and officials from multiple financial institutions, had already been completed. 'I hope the DPP will expedite making a decision on further action to be taken on the case if there are no queries (on the investigation paper),' he said. In January, Ops Sky led to the arrest of 12 people and the seizure of 4,000 documents, with 98 bank accounts frozen, amounting to over RM17mil.

Ismail Sabri due for another round of questioning
KUALA LUMPUR: Graft busters will resume recording the statement of former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob tomorrow, says Tan Sri Azam Baki. The Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner said the MACC will be focusing on his asset declaration. 'We will continue recording his statement and focus on his asset declaration under Section 36 (1) of the MACC Act 2009,' he told reporters after attending the graduation ceremony for 586 participants of the Certified Integrity Officer Programme yesterday. Azam had said the first phase of the investigation into the former prime minister had been completed, and the MACC was moving to the next stage. Ismail Sabri's statement was last recorded at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya on March 24 over an investigation into corruption and money laundering relating to the expenditure and acquisition of funds for the promotion and publicity of the Keluarga Malaysia programme during his tenure as prime minister from August 2021 to November 2022. The case is being investigated under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. On March 3, Azam revealed that Ismail Sabri was a suspect in the case after the MACC discovered about RM170mil in various currencies, along with 16kg of gold bars, during a raid. Separately, Azam said the MACC is still waiting for the forensic report involving 10 video recordings linked to allegations of corruption involving several Sabah assemblymen, adding that the investigation into the matter is ongoing. 'I expect the report will be finished soon as the forensic team is analysing all 10 video recordings. 'As I mentioned previously, eight state assemblymen have been called up to give their statements. We hope all parties will be patient and not speculate on the case,' he said. On April 10, Azam said 10 videos involving the case had been submitted to the MACC for analysis.

586 complete training as certified integrity officers
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 586 officers from the public sector, government-linked companies (GLCs) and the private sector have been accredited as certified integrity officers. Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said they received accreditation after completing four main modules of the Certified Integrity Officer Programme (CEIO). "The programme was introduced in 2010 to strengthen governance and integrity in the relevant sectors. "So far 2,851 officers have been trained in the programme," he said at the accreditation ceremony here on Tuesday (April 22). Certified integrity officers are tasked with planning, implementing and monitoring the effectiveness of integrity programmes while fostering a work culture with high integrity aimed at preventing corruption, he added. "This is not just a training programme. It is a long-term strategic investment in building a system of government that is transparent, ethical and corruption-free. "The success of the national integrity agenda depends on the commitment of all parties, especially the top leadership, policy implementers and integrity officers, which drives a culture of integrity," he said.
