George Springer's homer lifts Blue Jays over Twins
June 7 - George Springer hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning, and the Toronto Blue Jays held on for a 5-4 win over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday afternoon in Minneapolis. Tyler Heineman also homered for the Blue Jays, who won for the fourth time in a row and for the ninth time in their past 10 games. Toronto will go for a three-game sweep on Sunday. Matt Wallner and Kody Clemens each hit a solo home run for the Twins. The defeat secured Minnesota's first series loss at home since April 11-13, when they dropped two of three games against the Detroit Tigers. Blue Jays right-hander Chad Green (2-1) earned the win in relief. He tossed one scoreless inning as the first pitcher to follow starter Kevin Gausman, who gave up three runs in six innings. Twins right-hander Griffin Jax (1-4) gave up two runs on two hits in one inning of relief. He followed starter Chris Paddack, who held Toronto to two runs on four hits in six innings. Toronto closer Jeff Hoffman allowed one run in the ninth but escaped with his 15th save. The Blue Jays trailed 3-2 in the eighth when Springer stepped to the plate with a runner on second base and nobody out. He worked the count to 2-2 before belting a high changeup from Jax into the third row of the bleachers in left field to give Toronto a 4-3 lead. In the ninth, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. added an RBI single to drive in Heineman and increase the Blue Jays' lead to 5-3. The insurance run proved to be important as Clemens ripped a solo shot to right-center field off Hoffman in the bottom of the ninth to cut the Twins' deficit to 5-4. Hoffman held on to retire the next three batters on a strikeout and back-to-back flyouts to secure the win. Toronto opened the scoring in the first on an RBI single by Nathan Lukes. Heineman made it 2-0 in favor of the Blue Jays with a solo homer in the second. The Twins evened the score at 2-all in the fourth. Ty France was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Royce Lewis followed with a bases-loaded walk to even the score. Wallner hit a solo homer in the sixth to put the Twins on top until Springer's decisive blast. --Field Level Media

Rangers shut out Jays despite Nathan Eovaldi's early exit
May 28 - Josh Jung singled home the deciding run with two outs in the eighth inning as the Texas Rangers did just enough to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 2-0 on Tuesday in in Arlington, Texas. Six Rangers pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout despite starter Nathan Eovaldi leaving after two innings with what the term termed as right triceps fatigue. Jung's game-winning hit was delivered off Blue Jays reliever Chad Green (1-1) and came after Kyle Higashioka began the surge with a one-out single. Pinch runner Sam Haggerty took over for Higashioka and stole second. After a groundout and an intentional walk to Wyatt Langford, Jung punched his hit to center field. The Rangers got am insurance run immediately after when Toronto catcher Alejandro Kirk airmailed a pickoff throw toward third base, allowing Langford to trot home. Robert Garcia struck out two in the ninth to earn his third save of the year as Texas bounced back from a 2-1 loss in the opener of the three-game series on Monday. Father and son race Nitro Funny Cars together
ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- The National Hot Rod Association is the governing body for Nitro Funny Car racing. This is a type of drag racing where vehicles are characterized by its short wheelbase and fiberglass or carbon fiber body designed to resemble a production car. It is powered by a twelve thousand horsepower supercharged, nitromethane-fueled engine, and these cars can exceed speeds of 330 mph in under 4 seconds, in just a 1,000 ft race. 'When I bought my first car I really didn't know anything and so I just went out looking on the market place and you know it took a few months and I came across a car I liked, didn't really know anything about it,' said Chad Green, a Nitro Funny Car racer. 'I liked the way it looked so I bought it, didn't come with a motor, anything like that so then I had to start the search for, I got to find a motor to go with this car.' In Nitro Funny Car Racing, vehicles compete head-to-head in a knockout format. Nitro Funny Cars and Top Fuel Dragsters are the fastest cars in the sport and the fastest accelerating vehicles on the planet. Chad Green said he is honored to compete at the national level he does, but especially because he get to do it beside his son Hunter Green. 'We've had a lot of crazy moments, we actually won a race together back in California in 2023,' said Hunter Green, a Nitro Funny Car racer. 'The NAHRA final, so final race of the year. I was driving a different category at the time, but me and my father both ended up in the winner circle and both ended up with trophies that day at the last race of the year. So, that was truly a special day.' Chad and Hunter are thankful for the memories they have made racing and learning from one another, and they look forward to expanding their team in the future with more racers and crew members.
