Smith County Fire Marshal ‘strongly advising' residents to not burn outdoors
TYLER, Texas (KETK) – Smith County Fire Marshal Chad Hogue is strongly advising residents to not burn anything while outdoors on Friday, citing high winds and low moisture as potential fire dangers. East Texan volunteer fire departments awarded grants to tackle disasters 'Due to multiple fire danger triggers predicted on Friday, March 14, 2025, Smith County Fire Marshal Chad Hogue is strongly advising residents of Smith County to help eliminate ignition sources by not conducting outdoor burning and ensuring that all previous controlled burns are out cold,' Hogue said. 'Smith County will experience very low humidity, low surface fuel moisture, and winds of 15-20 mph with gust up to 35 mph which results in unusual and dangerous fire weather conditions throughout the day on Friday. The most effective way to extinguish a fire is to prevent it.' 35-year-old man hospitalized after illegal burning in Smith County
WHITEHOUSE, Texas (KETK) — A 35-year-old man was injured on Thursday while pouring gasoline on a controlled burn in Whitehouse. He was transported by helicopter to a local hospital for treatment after being issued a Class C Misdemeanor citation for illegal burning. Bank donates money for Smith County's new Firepup costume
SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – Prosperity Bank has donated $500 to the Smith County Fire Marshal's Office so they can buy a new Firepup costume. Longview FD searching for cause of fire at abandoned structure on Aurel Boulevard Fire departments across the country purchase Firepup costumes, formerly known as Sparky the Fire Dog, which are used to inform children about fire safety. Smith County Fire Marshal Chad Hogue thanked Prosperity Bank for contributing to the $3,395 cost of the costume. Hogue said he hopes the costume can be used during an April event they're planning with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The new costume will also be used during Fire Prevention Month in October, when they'll go to local elementary schools to educate students about fire prevention.
