BJP state VP seeks revision of internal reservation report to ensure justice for Holeya and Madiga communities
Mysuru: Former minister and BJP state vice-president N Mahesh on Thursday urged Karnataka govt to revise Justice Nagamohan Das commission report on internal reservation before implementing, to ensure justice for the Holeya and Madiga communities. Speaking to reporters, Mahesh emphasised that the report should be revised and updated to prevent any injustice to these communities. "Justice Nagamohan Das Commission, formed following the Madiga community's struggle for internal reservation, identified 101 castes, categorised them into five groups, and allocated reservations based on population. A sub-community of the Holeya community was placed in a separate category with a 1% reservation, while the Madiga community was allocated 6%. As a whole, the Holeya community received 5%. This subdivision within the Holeya community is unfair," he said. "The sub-category must be merged, and the Holeya community must be given 6% reservation," he added. He further called for reducing the number of categories from five to four to ensure equitable reservation for both communities. "We are not opposing Justice Nagamohan Das report but requesting its revision. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo The govt must not reject the report. It could lead to conflicts between the Holeya and Madiga communities," Mahesh stated. The Karnataka state right-hand castes federation staged a protest march in the city, demanding the rejection and review of internal reservation report submitted by the commission. The protesters marched from the town hall to the DC's office, where they held a demonstration. The federation criticised the report and alleged that the commission's recommendations violated govt regulations and exceeded its authority, resulting in injustice to the Right-Hand, Holeya, Chalavadi, and related communities. The protesters claimed that the survey was conducted by unauthorised individuals due to lack of identity cards for enumerators. They further noted discrepancies in Chitradurga district, where other castes were recorded instead of the afore mentioned communities. Sparing others, only Dalits forcibly evicted from Kadugodi land: Legislative Council LoP Chalavadi
BENGALURU: Leader of Opposition in the Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy during the discussion on matters of urgent public importance on Tuesday, protested the alleged demolition and eviction of Dalits from the 711-acre (Survey number 1) Kadugodi Plantation, Bidarahalli hobli, Bengaluru East. 'The land was sanctioned to local farmers in the 1950s and distributed among Dalits and other marginalised farmers. In its recent eviction, the forest department has razed small homes. Why weren't the offices, industries and other constructions by big builders in the land left untouched,' Chalavadi questioned. Responding, Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre said it was forest land and there was unauthorised occupation of over 120 acres, with some attempting to sell plots illegally. The forest department reclaimed it. Chalavadi approaches Horatti for privilege motion against Kalaburagi SP
BENGALURU: Leader of Opposition in the Council Chalavadi T Narayanaswamy on Friday approached Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, seeking his permission to move a breach of privilege motion against Kalaburagi Superintendent of Police and other officers. As Horatti was not in office, Chalavadi spoke to him over phone and submitted the proposal to the personal secretary at Vidhana Soudha. On being heckled and his alleged 'illegal detention' at the government guesthouse in Chittapur on May 21, Chalavadi alleged that officers were party to it. 'Kalaburagi SP Aduru Srinivasulu and Additional SP Mahesh Meghannavar, DySP Shankar Gowda Patil, CPIs Chandrashekar Thigadi, Nataraja Lada and other officers kept silent and performed their duties in a manner that led to my privileges being breached by participating in this criminal and shameful act,' he alleged, seeking action against them. Chalavadi was visiting Chittapur to attend a Tiranga Yatra programme organised in honour of Indian soldiers involved in 'Operation Sindoor'. Soon after he arrived at the Government Guesthouse at 3.30pm, some goons, claiming to be Congress workers, staged a protest in front of the main gate, using abusive language and shouting slogans, he alleged. 'Kalaburagi SP Aduru Srinivasulu did not arrive or respond properly to my call. But around 07.38 pm, the group forcibly entered the Circuit House premises. They threw a blueprint on my official government vehicle and damaged the vehicle. They tried to attack me, used low-level language, insulted and threatened me. Police were staring at me and were getting repeated phone calls. They were acting as per instructions given. I was trapped in that guesthouse for more than six hours and they kept me in illegal detention,' he said. Trouble broke out after Chalavadi allegedly made a derogatory remark against RDPR minister and Chittapur MLA Priyank Kharge.
