Oman IoT & AI Challenge 2025
The University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Al-Mussanah hosted the final round of the Oman IoT & AI Challenge 2025 at the university's theater. The challenge aims to inspire innovation and strengthen the technical skills of young people and entrepreneurs in Oman. It also reflects Oman's commitment to encouraging innovation and technology as key pillars of its digital future by creating a competitive environment that promotes research and entrepreneurship. In his speech, Dr. Nasser Al-Baimani, AVC of the university, emphasized the importance of IoT and AI in developing young minds and inspiring creativity. He highlighted that the challenge is not only a test of technical skills but also an opportunity to empower participants to transform their ideas into real projects that contribute to sustainable development. He also stressed the university's role in enhancing students' skills by enabling them to develop smart solutions that address current challenges and support digital transformation. The final round brought together the top projects and startups from the semi-final stage, selected through strict criteria focused on technical excellence and added value. Participants underwent a thorough evaluation, where projects were filtered based on quality, innovation, and practical application. The most outstanding teams advanced to the final, with winners set to represent Oman in the Arab IoT & AI Challenge—giving them a chance to compete regionally and raise the standard of innovation and excellence. Dr. Saeed Al-Rubaie, Vice Chancellor of the university, inaugurated the accompanying exhibition, which featured five startups and 22 student graduation projects. Participants came from university branches across Al-Mussanah, Sohar, Salalah, Ibri, Nizwa, Ibra, Muscat, Shinas, Sur, as well as Sohar University and Majan University College. The exhibition served as a platform to encourage students and entrepreneurs to develop tech solutions and foster stronger collaboration between academia and industry, opening new opportunities for collaboration and investment in emerging technologies. The Oman IoT & AI Challenge is a national platform that aims to promote innovation and enhance technical skills in IoT and AI. The challenge empowers youth and entrepreneurs to develop smart solutions addressing challenges across sectors, strengthening Oman's position as a regional hub for technological innovation.

‘New Jax City': Jacksonville World in Minecraft Education, local Esport competition announced
The City of Jacksonville has launched 'New Jax City', a citywide Minecraft building challenge aimed at helping reimagine the city's public spaces and communities. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks] New Jax City, a partnership between Minecraft Education, C40 Cities, Duval County Public Schools, and the City of Jacksonville, is open to all elementary school students within Duval County. We're thrilled to join select cities around the world in partnering with Minecraft Education to give students the chance to shape Jacksonville's future,' said Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan. 'While playing, students will learn from real city leaders and see how we work together to solve problems and build a better future for our city. I encourage all of our students to participate in the Challenge, which is designed to build pathways to STEM careers and civic leadership.' The challenge integrates STEM, urban planning, and student input that aims to help create a new vision for the city's future. 'We are excited to welcome students to the New Jax City Build Challenge 2025! This Minecraft Education challenge ignites creativity and inspires Duval County students to envision a more sustainable city for themselves and future generations. By collaborating with their peers, students can learn from each other, build new skills, and showcase their innovation to city leaders,' said Allison Matthews, Head of Minecraft Education. Jacksonville is one of the few cities to be featured in Minecraft Education. Parts of the city are available for students to explore, as well as key city leaders are available to encounter as NPCs throughout. 'We're excited to see Jacksonville's youth step up as creators and leaders, imagining a better, more sustainable city,' said Ashantae Green, Sustainability Manager for the City of Jacksonville. 'This initiative gives students the opportunity to learn about city plans and projects, and the platform to showcase their ideas.' The challenge will be followed by a virtual semi-final from April 14 to May 2, followed by the Mayor's Cup on May 20. UAE: 2 roads to be temporarily closed on February 22 for Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge
Certain roads in Dubai will be temporarily closed on Saturday, February 22 for the Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge 2025, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said. Key roads affected include Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street and Hessa Street, which will be temporarily closed during the race. The 40-km race, part of the event's 15th edition, will take place at 6am to 9.30am on Saturday. Cyclists will start from Expo City Dubai, follow a route along Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, make a U-turn at the Hessa Street intersection, and return to the finish line at Expo City Dubai. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time. The RTA advised drivers to leave early to avoid delays and ensure they reach their destinations on time.
