Gurugram: A Gurugram court has sentenced five convicts to life imprisonment for the murder of local BJP leader and ex-vice president of the Sohna market committee, Sukhbir Khatana alias Sukhi, police said on Thursday. The court of Additional Sessions Judge Sunil Kumar Diwan also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on each of the convicts, they said. The STF had arrested 20 persons for reportedly conducting a recce and carrying out the murder, police said. On September 1, 2022, BJP leader Khatana, a resident of Rithoj village, was gunned down in broad daylight by armed assailants at a Raymonds showroom on the Gurdwara Road near Sadar Bazaar when he was buying clothes. Anurag, the son of the deceased, accused the involvement of Khatana's brother-in-law Chaman and his accomplices in the murder. Based on his complaint, an FIR has been registered at the Civil Lines police station. After a brief investigation, the case was transferred to the Special Task Force (STF), which arrested 20 persons, including Chaman alias Pawan, politician Rohtas Khatana's brother Joginder, and gangster Vikram Singh alias Papla Gujjar. After hearing both sides, the court sentenced five out of the 20 accused on Monday, including Chaman, Yogesh, Deepak, Arun alias Ankul and Rahul. Khatana held the post of vice-chairman of the Sohna Nagar Parishad. His wife Pushpa is presently the councillor from Ward No. 2. Five sentenced to life imprisonment in BJP leader's murder case of 2022

A sessions court sentenced five people to rigorous life imprisonment on Wednesday after holding them guilty of murdering BJP leader Sukhbir Khatana in September 2022. The court also acquitted 16 other accused named in the chargesheet by police in the murder case including gangster Vikram Singh alias Papla Gujjar due to lack of evidence against them, said officials aware of the matter adding that Singh will continue to remain lodged in Bhondsi jail in connection with dozens of other criminal cases against him. Khatana, 48, was inside a garment showroom in Sadar bazaar area when armed assailants shot him dead after barging inside the shop on September 1, 2022. The court of additional sessions judge Sunil Kumar Dewan imposed an overall fine of ₹3 lakh on each of the convicts Chaman alias Pawan, Yogesh, Deepak alias Deepu, Ankul and Rahul after sentencing them for life imprisonment under sections 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy), two years' imprisonment under Section 201 (disappearance of evidence on an offence) of Indian Penal Code and five years' imprisonment under the Arms Act. Khatana, 48, originally from Rithoj village, was a former vice-chairman of the Sohna marketing committee. He was inside a garment showroom in Sadar bazaar area when armed assailants shot him dead after barging inside the shop in broad daylight on September 1, 2022. Public prosecutor Dhananjay Kumar said that Chaman alias Pawan, who was brother of Khatana's second wife, was the main conspirator in the case. 'Khatana had a love marriage with Chaman's sister, Pushpa, more than 17 years back but her family had not approved it. They had accepted their relationship six years before his murder. However, Chaman still nurtured a grudge against Khatana over the marriage as he used to get humiliated amid his friends for this marriage. This was the prime motive behind the murder which he executed after taking help from henchmen working for the gangster,' said Kumar. Kumar said there were 57 prosecution witnesses of which about two turned hostile but the rest deposed supporting the allegations. 'CCTV footage was clinching evidence in the case which had clearly established that the five convicts were present at the spot and had opened fire on Khatana,' he said. Kumar said ballistic reports also established that the bullets retrieved from the body and the empty cartridges recovered from the spot were fired from the murder weapons recovered on the indications of the convicts. 'Except Chaman, all other convicts were associated with the gangster Papla Gujjar. There were allegations by Khatana's family that he was murdered due to political rivalry in which Chaman was used but no concrete evidence came in the course of trial to establish it,' he added.

'Drishyam'-Style Murder In Mumbai Was Planned. Wife Got Pit Dug 12 Days Ago

The body of a 40-year-old man, Vijay Chavan, was found buried in his house in Mumbai's Nalasopara 15 days after he reportedly went missing. Vijay was allegedly killed and buried by his wife, Chaman, along with her lover, Monu. The latest investigation reveals that the murder was planned as Chaman got a pit dug 12 days ago and tried to withdraw money from her husband's account, according to police sources. Chaman, her seven-year-old son, and alleged lover Monu are missing. Search For Missing Brother Last week, Vijay's brothers, who had been trying to contact him for the past 15 days, visited his house. Upon enquiring, Chaman told them that Vijay had gone out for work either in Borivali, Kandivali or Malad. On July 19, Chaman left the house along with her son. The CCTV footage from the area showed her buying three samosas (snacks) from a local vendor. On Monday evening, the family broke open the door of the house and began searching. They didn't find anything unusual but spotted three tiles, which appeared to have been replaced recently. Dig, Bury, And Hide It is these new and differently-coloured floor tiles that echoed, 'something is fishy.' The family informed the police, who found a black plastic bag buried a few feet below the floor with a decomposed body inside. The latest investigation reveals that 12 days ago, Chaman had a 3.5-foot-deep and 6-foot-long pit dug in their house. Two days later, a tiler was called to lay tiles over the pit at an expense of Rs 1,200. Greed For Money? Vijay, a home renovation contractor, received Rs 6 lakh from an insurance policy about a month ago, the sources said. He already had Rs 2-3 lakh in his account and was planning to buy a new house. Vijay had already transferred his existing house to his wife's name. Police investigation revealed that Chaman generated several one-time passwords (OTPs) from Vijay's mobile phone and accessed his bank account. She went on to withdraw money from different ATMs. The amount is unclear right now. Affair With A Neighbour The murder, which bears a resemblance to the Bollywood movie 'Drishyam', was allegedly orchestrated by Chaman, with her neighbour-turned-lover being an accomplice. Monu's mother had once caught him red-handed, talking to Chaman and confiscated his phone, the sources said. Monu was not allowed to go to college for two days, but later the phone was returned. A murder case has been registered against the two, and a search is on.

Mistaken for a thief, man beaten to death by 2 security guards in Faridabad

Two security guards were arrested on Sunday in connection with the murder of a 27-year-old man at Sector 10 in Faridabad. The incident took place on the intervening night between July 5 and 6. Police said their initial probe revealed that the accused, employed as security guards in the area, mistook the victim, Vikas, for a thief and attacked him with sticks. According to police, on July 5, Vikas visited his brother and father at the Rajasthan Seva Sadan, a wedding venue in Sector 10 where they worked as sanitation workers, and left later that night. But the next morning, police said his body was found on a road adjacent to the Sadan. In a complaint filed at the Sector 11 police station, Vikas's brother, Abhishek, alleged that he was killed by security guards, Chaman and Vijay Kumar. Police said a case was registered under murder charges of the BNS at the Sector 8 police station. A police spokesperson stated that the team acted swiftly and arrested the security guards. Kumar hails from Badram village in Bihar's Siwan district, and currently resides at Adarsh Nagar in Ballabgarh; Chaman is a resident of Gudawari village, Palwal. The accused were produced in court on Monday and remanded for two days in police custody. The Faridabad district has been witness to similar attacks on youths in recent times. Last month, the Faridabad Police arrested a 19-year-old man and apprehended his two minor accomplices for allegedly assaulting and holding an 18-year-old Dalit boy, Sahil, hostage at Subhash Colony in Ballabgarh. According to the police, the accused allegedly tonsured the teen's head, shaved his eyebrows, and moustache, and hurled casteist slurs against him. According to the police, the main accused hatched a plan to attack Sahil, who was once his close friend, 'to teach him a lesson' due to the ongoing disputes between the two. Preliminary investigations in this case had revealed that the two had known each other for eight years.

Ruckus over ‘cow meat' sale in May: Forensic test positive, shopkeeper arrested, say Delhi Police

A month after a ruckus broke out at a grocery shop in Northwest Delhi over the alleged sale of cow meat, the police have arrested the store's shopkeeper after forensic tests confirmed that one of the three samples sent for examination was cow meat, The Indian Express has learnt. Police said the shopkeeper, Chaman Kumar (44) from Nepal, was arrested last week after the report was positive. 'The report stated that out of the three samples, one was cow meat while the other two were buffalo meat,' a police source said. 'Soon after receiving the report from the Delhi FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory), police registered an FIR under sections of the Animal Cruelty Act and the BNS at Model Town Police station and arrested the accused, Chaman,' the source said. When contacted, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh confirmed the development. On May 28, a group of people had beaten up Chaman in Vijay Nagar, near Delhi University's North Campus, accusing him of selling cow meat at his grocery shop. Police had said that a sample of the meat had been sent for forensic examination. The complainant was a 15-year-old boy who alleged that he purchased the meat for Rs 400 per kg from the said shop. At the time, police had said in a statement, 'Upon suspicion of cow meat being sold, some members of the public manhandled the shopkeeper. He was provided medical assistance.' Police had added that CCTV footage from the area was being collected and reviewed to verify the sequence of events. They added that the shop had been sealed. The Students' Federation of India (SFI) had attempted to protest outside the Model Town Police Station against the assault but were denied permission. Vijay Nagar is a densely populated area with closely packed buildings, most of them offering PG accommodations. The walls are splashed with graffiti of student unions like the SFI and All India Students' Association.
