Fires and tear gas erupt around Paris as chaos reigns amid Champions League win
The worrying scenes started during the first half and are ongoing in the aftermath of the game Parts of Paris have descended into chaos with footage of fires, tear gas and hooligans clashing with authorities during their Champions League Final win over Inter. Luis Enrique's team destroyed the Italians in Germany in the most one-sided final in the competition's history to win it for the first time ever. They sent the Premier League's best packing along the way and it was expected to be a tight finale with the Serie A runners up. But a youthful PSG team no longer weighed down by big names like Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar went goal crazy with Desire Doue the star of the show with two goals and an assist. Back in Paris though things took a worrying turn. Footage begin emerging on social media around the time of PSG's second goal of hooligans clashing with riot police and fires emerging around the city, intensifying near the club's home stadium, Parc de Princes. A fanzone had been set up but reportedly had to be vacated due to the escalating violence in the area. Police were seen wielding tear gas and batons clashing with masked hooligans and roads around the stadium had to be blocked off. Multiple fires broke out near the stadium with emergency services deployed to the scene. The worrying scenes are ongoing in the aftermath of the final. Both managers in tonight's showpiece final have had plenty of nice words to say about Celtic It's a Champions League Final for the ages in Munich – but if you listen to both managers, they might rather it was taking place at Celtic Park. Simone Inzaghi's Inter take on Luis Enrique's PSG at the Allianz Arena as two of Europe's best sides officially bring the curtain down on season 2024/25. The Italians dumped Enrique's former team Barcelona in one of the all-time great semi-finals while French champions PSG sweeped three of the Premier League's best in Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal to reach this stage. It wasn't so long ago though that each of them were sitting in the dugout at Parkhead. Back in 2016, Enrique brought his Barca side to Glasgow for a Champions League clash and they were confident – having put seven past the Hoops in Spain. The damage this time wasn't as devastating, a Lionel Messi double the extent of it as Barca picked up a comfortable 2-0 win. Speaking ahead of it, Enrique said: Luis Enrique: 'It will be special because they are a great club with a spectacular atmosphere and we must enjoy it to the fullest and give the best possible account of ourselves. "We will be happy to go to one of the best stadiums in Europe in terms of atmosphere knowing that their fans will have a great sporting image and offer their full support to the team.' Inzaghi was even more gushing in 2019 when his Lazio side were gunned down in the Europa League. And speaking after the game when Christopher Jullien's goal gave Celtic a late 2-1 win, he couldn't have been more effusive in his praise. The gushing boss said: "The Celtic game is a match I will be telling my children about for many years. In fact, I actually brought my oldest child with me because I knew how good it would be. "Yes, we lost to Celtic, but they are a quality team who play at a very high pace and to a very good standard. There's nothing to be ashamed of."
