Article content Chanse Vigen is closing in on capturing the world title in chuckwagon racing. Article content It was a cool and cloudy Friday night for the World Professional Chuckwagon Association tour stop in Rocky Mountain House, Alta. Article content But the grandstand was packed, the racetrack was fast, the excitement was hot, and some fantastic chuckwagons were the order for the day. By the time the evening wrapped up, and for the second consecutive night, the Alberta Ag Centre Fast Time Of The Night was a track record run set by Vigen to slightly increase his overall lead in the 2025 world chuckwagon standings. Article content Article content From barrel No. 1 in heat No. 9, Vigen's Terrafirma Resources outfit posted a time of 1:12.48 and exceeded the track record he set just last night by 28/100ths of a second. Article content Article content Obrey Motowylo was second on the night, just 7/100ths of a second behind the track record time set by Vigen. Jason Glass, Kurt Bensmiller and Chad Fike rounded out the top five times on the night. Article content As was the case the previous night, four drivers bettered the previous track record, with Vigen, Motowylo, Glass and Bensmiller all posting times better that the track record of 1:12.76 set by Vigen on Thursday night. Article content However, as impressive as the track record run might appear, Vigen only gained just two points on Glass on the night and has a 5-1/2 point lead over Glass in the chase for the championship. Motowylo and Evan Salmond sit third and fourth respectively 46 and 55 points back of the overall leader Vigen. The world champion chuckwagon driver and the world champion outrider will both be declared on Saturday night, as the ones who accumulate the most number of points over the course of the season. Article content Article content The track record run keeps Vigen on top of the overall aggregate standings with a three-run total of 3:42.99 and gives him a 1.86 second lead over Motowylo. Article content Glass has moved up into third place overall, with Bensmiller holding down fourth place overall. Article content Jamie Laboucane slipped out of the top four and is now in fifth place overall and is 24/100ths of a second outside of a possible spot in Sunday's championship final heat that will decide the Battle of the Rockies Championship. Article content The top four drivers in the overall aggregate standings after Saturday night will go into the $25,000.00 Championship Final Heat to declare the champion of the Rocky Mountain House.

Article content It was an outstanding long weekend as the Strathmore Stampede wrapped up on a hot and sunny Monday afternoon. Racetrack conditions were exceptional on three out of the four days, capacity crowds and great chuckwagon racing was the order for the entire event. When everything finally wrapped up, Jason Glass, driving Birchcliff Energy Ltd. Outfit, and along with outriders Tyson Whitehead and Trey MacGillivray, who captured the 2025 Strathmore Stampede Championship. Article content Article content In a penalty free championship final heat, Jason Glass won the Strathmore Stampede with penalty free run of 1:13.94 from barrel position number 2. Defending Strathmore Stampede Champion Chanse Vigen placed second from barrel number 3, 91 one-hundredths of a second behind the champion Jason Glass. Evan Salmond placed third from barrel position number 3, while Lane Tournier, who has been driving for his injured father Luke Tournier since the Ponoka Stampede and was making his first appearance in a Championship Final Heat on the WPCA Pro Tour, placed fourth from barrel position number 1. Article content Article content As per usual, Jason Glass credits his horses for the win. 'My horses have been amazing,' explains Glass. 'I've been driving quite a few new ones the last few shows. I'm very proud of them.' Article content It's the third time that Jason Glass has won the Strathmore Stampede, but the first time under the Championship Final Heat format. 'Just beautiful horses. We shuffle them around a lot and try to keep them fresh,' Said Glass. 'To outrun some of these other drivers you need to be on top of your game and those horses need to love what they do.' Article content On the day, and for the second consecutive year, the Championship Final Heat produced the top four times on the afternoon. Jason Glass was first with the fastest time of the race meet with a 1:13.94, followed by Chanse Vigen, Evan Salmond nd Lane Tournier. Jamie Laboucane rounded out the afternoon with the fifth best time. Article content
