Shaan says GenZ knows me as the abusive uncle from the meme, not for my songs: ‘Kids ask my son if…'

Shaan became a viral sensation for all the wrong reasons during the COVID-19 pandemic. When the world was under lockdown, Shaan, just like other celebs tried to connect with his fans through Instagram Live. However, his experience was not as good. During the session, the singer read aloud a few abusive comments and schooled them for being disrespectful. However, his fans screen-recorded his live and shared that specific clip where he read out the comments. Soon, it sparked a meme fest online. Now, after nearly 5 years, Shaan has addressed the controversy. In an interview with Mashable India, the singer shared, 'I was reading comments without my glasses on. I didn't know that people abuse you in comments. While I was going through the comments, I read it as it is: #$%@#. But, the catch was that someone screen-recorded my live and it became a huge meme. Eventually, it became my identity.' Shaan, who is known for songs like 'Mai Aisa Kyun Hu', 'Chand Sifarsh', 'Aal Izz Well', and 'Woh Ladki Hai Kahan', said that GenZ today don't recognise him for his singing career but that meme that went viral a few years ago. Who are these people? Can you please be respectful. It shows your upbringing. Please ask your teachers and parents about my identity. Haven't I voiced enough popular songs to be known by you all.' He went on to read out few more abusive comments and said, 'I don't want to be popular among these people.' The clip of this video was also shared on Reddit, where his fans expressed anger. A user wrote, 'How does such a good singer get insulted so much?' Another user commented, 'I bet these are the same people who beg him for selfies , if they met him in real life. It's just cowardly to hide behind fake name and dp and abusing celebs.'
