YSRCP protests against NDA govt's ‘betrayal' of people

1 2 Vijayawada: YSRCP leaders and cadres took to the streets across the state on Wednesday to participate in the 'betrayal day' protest, called by party supremo YS Jagan Mohan Reddy . The protests, which included rallies and dharnas, were held in all district headquarters, municipal towns, and mandal centers. Party leaders alleged that the Chandrababu Naidu-led NDA govt failed to implement its poll promises and had betrayed the people's verdict. YSRCP state coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said that the massive turnout for the protest programme clearly indicated the govt's failure. He claimed that people had voluntarily attended the dharnas despite police restrictions and had voiced their dissent. He pointed out that people had realized the difference between Naidu and Jagan Mohan Reddy, who had fulfilled 99% of his promises within a year. He criticized the NDA government for stopping existing schemes and not rolling out promised ones, neglecting health, medical, and agriculture sectors, and pushing the poor into more debt. He also slammed the govt for downsizing the number of beneficiaries while boasting about increasing pension amounts. He highlighted the poor quality of governance, citing the example of physically challenged and aged people standing in queue lines to get ration after the door delivery system was scrapped. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo He further alleged that the NDA govt had secured debts of over Rs 1.51 lakh crore in just 11 months, which was much higher than the debt incurred during Jagan's regime. Surprisingly, the NDA govt did not implement even a single welfare scheme, he said. The YSRCP leader criticized the police for trying to restrict the protests and telling people how to conduct them. However, he said that people had vented their ire and participated in huge numbers despite these efforts. Sajjala emphasized that YSRCP, as a responsible opposition party, would always be with the people and would fight for justice until the ruling party fulfilled its promises. Thalliki Vandanam Scheme 2025: Mothers Of These Students Won't Get The Rs 15,000 Per Child Aid

Currently, about 81 lakh students are studying in the state. Of these, the government has calculated that only 69.16 lakh students are eligible for the scheme The Chandrababu Naidu government plans to implement the Thalliki Vandanam (Salute To Mother) scheme in Andhra Pradesh as outlined in the TDP-NDA 2024 election manifesto. This scheme aims to provide Rs 15,000 directly into mothers' accounts to cover the educational expenses of school-going students. Under the Thalliki Vandanam Scheme, financial assistance of Rs 15,000 will be provided for each child in a family. If there are two children, Rs 30,000 will be given; if there are three, up to Rs 45,000 will be directly deposited into the mothers' bank accounts. This will support children's education expenses and reduce the financial burden on mothers. A key feature of the scheme is that funds will be sent directly to mothers' bank accounts without intermediaries. The Chandrababu Naidu-led Andhra government has allocated Rs 9,407 crore in the 2025–26 budget for the successful implementation of the scheme. Currently, about 81 lakh students are studying in the state. Of these, the government has calculated that only 69.16 lakh students are eligible for the scheme, with the remaining students likely losing eligibility due to attendance or other conditions. As per government rules, students must have at least 75% attendance, which will be verified through the schools' regular attendance records. Students failing to meet this requirement will not be eligible for the scheme. This aims to increase awareness among students and parents about the importance of school attendance. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, while participating in the Srikakulam District Fisheries Assurance Programme, made important remarks regarding the implementation of the scheme. He revealed that the government is discussing whether to provide the entire Rs 15,000 at once or in two instalments of Rs 7,500 each. It is expected that giving the total amount in one instalment will provide greater immediate financial relief to mothers. However, officials suggest that disbursing the amount in instalments could encourage greater parental involvement throughout the academic year. After the start of the new academic year, and once student attendance registration is completed, the list of eligible students will be finalised. Following this, the government will deposit the funds directly into the mothers' accounts. The main objective of the scheme is to remove financial barriers to education and to provide financial encouragement to mothers. There are, however, some challenges in the scheme's implementation. In particular, the government must proactively address issues such as accurately recording student attendance and improving the efficiency of school administrations. Transparency and efficiency will play a crucial role in identifying and supporting the large number of beneficiaries.

Former Andhra finance minister flags irregularities under TDP government

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) slammed the Chandrababu Naidu-led Andhra Pradesh coalition government, calling out what it described as 'undemocratic' and 'unprecedented' handling of public a press conference, former Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy accused the government of pushing the state into a financial crisis, claiming that loans have ballooned to Rs 1.40 lakh crore without any clear explanation on where the money has no clarity on fund utilisation, and the promised welfare schemes during the election haven't even taken off,' Reddy FUTURE BORROWINGS PLEDGED? Reddy also flagged what he called a dangerous precedent — pledging the future borrowings of the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC).'What's even more shocking is that a private entity has been allowed to access Reserve Bank of India (RBI) funds directly. This is not only unprecedented, it goes against established financial norms,' he urged the government to explain how and why this was approved, warning that public sector undertakings like APMDC were being dragged into risky financial FOR REVENUE SPENDING, NOT DEVELOPMENT?The YSRCP leader took particular issue with the government's move to raise money through Non-Convertible Debentures (NCDs), which he alleged were being used for revenue expenditure — day-to-day costs — rather than long-term capital projects that would drive development. He warned that the borrowing, which reportedly exceeds APMDC's annual revenue, would only deepen the state's financial burden."PRIVATE HANDS ON PUBLIC MONEY"advertisementWhile borrowing for infrastructure isn't unusual, Reddy said the decision to allow a private custodian of these bonds to directly tap into RBI financing raises serious concerns.'How can a private player get access to central banking funds meant for government borrowing? It's a dangerous mix,' he said.'WE HANDLED IT BETTER DURING COVID'Drawing a comparison with the previous regime, Reddy said the YSRCP government managed state finances better — even during the Covid pandemic.'We borrowed responsibly and spent transparently. Today, we have a coalition government that's borrowed Rs 1.40 lakh crore and still hasn't fulfilled its basic promises to farmers, students, or women,' he said.A CALL FOR ACCOUNTABILITYReddy ended with a warning: that the coalition's financial tactics are not just questionable—they risk eroding public trust. He urged the government to be more transparent and called for greater scrutiny from within the coalition response, the Naidu government has refuted the allegations, calling them baseless and unsubstantiated. It maintained that the funds are being raised transparently to boost infrastructure and expand mining projects. IN THIS STORY#Andhra Pradesh
