Disk jockey from Turffontein aims to reach the top of SA music

Disk jockey from Turffontein aims to reach the top of SA music Themba Ngwenya, a 33-year-old West Turffontein resident, professionally known as DJ Thembaland, has been making waves in the South African music scene for over a decade. DJ Thembaland's love for music was ignited when he was younger, after learning how to operate DJ equipment. 'I fell in love with music at an early age, then I started making music of my own and the passion grew,' said Themba. Early beginnings DJ Thembaland's journey began in 2011, playing at house parties in Turffontein. He quickly secured his first club gig as a resident DJ at Maplankeni in Rosettenville, where he honed his craft and built industry connections. 'I learnt a lot about the industry and developed connections with many producers and other DJs,' said Themba. Breakthrough success His breakthrough came in 2019 with the production of his first official single in the amapiano genre, Cinderella, released in 2020. The track's success led to collaborations with major artists, including Mr Luu, Nokwazi, and DJ Farmer. 'Cinderella did very well and featured on music channels like Channel O and MTV Base,' said Themba. Residencies and recognition DJ Thembaland has held prestigious residencies at Shakers Cocktail Bar and Jojo Rooftop Lounge in Maboneng, Johannesburg. His hits have dominated national airwaves, earning him TV and radio recognition. 'My tracks have already played on Metro and Ukhozi FM,' said Themba. With a growing list of chart-topping hits, including True Blue, DJ Thembaland has proven himself to be a consistent hitmaker. He continues to inspire upcoming talents in the industry, solidifying his position as a leading figure in South African music. 'I want to continue making music and anticipate many collaborations with some of South Africa's biggest amampiano artists,' outlined Themba. Themba will release an extended play (term for a musical release that is longer than a single but shorter than a full-length album). It will contain four songs and will be titled Orata Piano. Dr Brian Monaisa confirms Minnie Dlamini split: Inside the short-lived affair

Dr Brian Monaisa confirmed his breakup with Minnie Dlamini, attributing the split to personal reasons and denying infidelity. Their romance was marked by lavish trips and public declarations, including a Valentine's Day post with a brand-new Porsche reportedly gifted by Monaisa. Trouble surfaced in late March when they deleted photos of each other, signalling the end of their high-profile relationship. After a whirlwind romance filled with glamorous travels and grand gestures, plastic surgeon Dr Brian Monaisa has officially confirmed his split from award-winning media personality Minnie Dlamini. Monaisa shared news of the split on social media on Monday, saying they called it quits on their romance under amicable terms, clearing the air around speculation of cheating. "Ms Dlamini and I had a beautiful relationship, which sadly came to an end purely for personal reasons, which had nothing to do with infidelity by either party," he said. "Whilst our romantic relationship has come to an end, there remains mutual respect between Ms Dlamini and I." The couple's journey began under uncertain timelines but became public knowledge in January when Monaisa posted loved-up snaps of them together on his Instagram stories. The newfound romance soon faced controversy as Monaisa's ex-girlfriend, Neema Aloyce, publicly accused Dlamini of wrecking her family on social media. However, days later, Aloyce retracted her allegations, saying, "Even though she (Dlamini) was part and parcel of my betrayal, I should have been able to control how I dealt with the situation." Despite the drama, Dlamini and Monaisa's bond blossomed. By February, the couple had made it Instagram official as they had documented their luxurious Zimbabwe getaway. On Valentine's Day, Dlamini affectionately referred to Monaisa as "motho waka" (my person) in a post of them together and another of her gleaming beside a brand-new Porsche, reportedly a grand gesture from the doctor. The pair's romance peaked during Monaisa's birthday celebrations in March when Dlamini pulled out all the stops with gifts, a fancy party, and another getaway – this time to Nigeria. Teasing playfully, she hinted at high expectations for her own birthday in July. After the festivities, the former couple were all smiles at the 2025 Forbes Woman Africa Awards at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria, demonstrating a star couple in their prime. However, before the end of March, the cracks began to show as the pair quietly removed social media posts featuring each other from their respective social media pages, fuelling speculation. Notably, Monaisa was also absent from the screening of Channel O's (DStv 320) Club Bangers, a production by Dlamini's company Beautiful Day Productions. Amid the highs and lows, an unnamed source previously told Zimoja that their relationship began as a friendship and grew stronger once both were single. Dlamini's romantic history includes her 2017 marriage to Quinton Jones, with whom she shares a child. That marriage ended in 2022, with a denial of infidelity rumours in a joint statement.
