The group currently has a licence to occupy the nearby Chapelhall Library, where they deliver youth activities for hundreds of local young people in the area. Councillor Geraldine Woods, convener of communities, said: "We are committed to empowering local people. "This project in Chapelhall shows how communities can really benefit when they have more control over local facilities." A Community Asset Transfer allows eligible community groups to apply for ownership, lease, or management of council-owned buildings or land. The process is made possible under the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015, which requires applicants to demonstrate strong governance, clear community benefits, and sustainable plans for the asset. Councillors support transferring ownership of site in Chapelhall to community-based charity

Councillors have supported transferring ownership of a site in Chapelhall to a community-based charity. North Lanarkshire Council's communities committee agreed to sell the land, which currently houses the former Chapellhall Senior Citizens Centre, to Chapelhall Community Development Group. The unanimous decision was in keeping with recommendations made in a report to the committee, although some details and conditions will have to be finalised before the deal is completed. The development group, which is a registered charitable organisation, offered £36,000 to purchase the land, representing around half of its estimated value, as it was deemed they would be able to provide sufficient benefit to the local community that a discount was justified. The project planned for the site is the development of a two-storey community hub offering various activities based on the needs of local people, addressing issues such as social isolation, youth engagement, fuel poverty and improving mental health. The report stated: 'The transfer aligns well with the Council's objectives under The Plan for North Lanarkshire and the Airdrie Local Outcome Improvement Plan, and offers a sustainable route for enhancing civic participation, improving community wellbeing, and the provision of additional accessible services in Chapelhall. 'Based on the social, economic, and community benefits outlined, the scoring panel members suggests positive consideration of the request. 'The proposal offers a reasonable, locally grounded response to community need, and supports the empowerment and self-determination of the Chapelhall community.'
