A new film festival in Saskatchewan, focused on African filmmaking, is getting ready to launch.
The first African International Film Festival Saskatchewan (AIFF-S) is set to be held next month at the University of Regina campus – with a theme of 'African stories as universal narratives.'
Organizers told CTV News that they feel it's important to showcase these kind of stories -- to audiences in the Queen City.
'We would always want to let people know about, not just our culture, but our art,' festival founder and director Babatunde Onikoyi explained.
'I feel like bringing a festival to Saskatchewan is a great opportunity for us to be able to tell our stories and also to share the cultural exchanges with the Saskatchewan community,' filmmaker Charles Umeh added.
A total of 25 films are in the running – with awards in 19 categories.
Twenty of those films will be screened over the four-day festival from September 10th to 15th.
