Jabari Elijah Solomon, 10, and Charlie Herbert Solomon Riveria, 4, died on Saturday, May 10, after a Dodge Durango collided with a Kia Soul that was making a left turn in the city of Largo at around 1:45 p.m. local time, according to ESPN, The Miami Herald and NBC affiliate WFLA. The Largo Police Department (LPD) confirmed on Facebook that it was investigating the "double fatality crash" on Saturday afternoon in the area of Ridge Road and Orangeview Drive, with a large portion of the area closed for several hours so they could investigate. In an update later that day, the LPD confirmed the road had reopened. Public information officer Megan Santo confirmed, in a statement to ESPN, that University of Miami linebacker Adarius Hayes was involved in the crash. While the outlet reported that the officer did not clarify if he was driving one of the involved vehicles, she allegedly identified him as one of the drivers to WFLA. Authorities do not believe that alcohol played a factor in the crash, per both ESPN and WFLA. The Herald reported that several unidentified people had been hospitalized with 'serious injuries," and local reporter Andy Slater also confirmed on X that Hayes had been "hospitalized" following the crash. "This is an ongoing and active investigation, and no further information is available for release at this time," Santo said in a statement to ESPN. The LPD did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for further information on Sunday, May 11. The crash left behind a twisted fence, with witnesses telling WFLA that the football player appeared distraught when he got out of one of the vehicles. An unidentified neighbor spoke with the outlet about what they witnessed on the scene, stating that they were "the first one out" when the crash took place. The neighbor "started calling for somebody call 911 because there was a child" involved. 'This all happened because the hot rod in this road all the time. We come down here and they're raising the car or you're speeding here, come through here at 60, 70, 80 miles an hour even, and many times we call the police," the neighbor said. "No, there's nothing. Not much changes.' During his freshman season in 2024, Hayes played in 12 games and finished with four tackles and one interception, according to his school's website. He was previously one of the top-ranked linebackers in the nation at Largo High School and committed to Miami following offers from Florida, Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State. Multiple friends and teammates shared their thoughts on social media following the crash, including linebacker Raul Aguirre, who posted an image from a team outing. "Got you bro🤞🏼🙏🏻 keep fighting," he wrote on X. Read the original article on People
