We hit 23 in our Raiders countdown to kickoff. Who wore it best and who's wearing it now
We've reached 23 days until the Raiders season opener at Foxboro against the Patriots, With our countdown at 23 days we take a look at who currently dons the number in Silver & Black and who has brought it the most distinction.
No. 23
Who's wearing it now: RB Dylan Laube
Laube was the Raiders selection in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of New Hampshire. He carried hopes of being a valuable special teams player and reserve running back. He had one carry last season and fumbled it. And saw limited action as a return specialist as well. He is hoping he has shown enough in each area to either win one of the four expected RB spots or get them to add a fifth.
Who wore it best: RB Charlie Smith
Smith was a solid starting back for the Raiders whose era in Silver & Black fell right between their first two Super Bowl appearances. He was selected in the fourth round of the 1968 NFL Draft -- the year after the Raiders played in Super Bowl II. HIs final season in the NFL was 1975, the year before the Raiders won Super Bowl XI. He had 3351 yards and 24 touchdowns in his seven seasons with the Raiders. His four seasons leading the team in rushing is tied for third in franchise history.
