Charlize Theron broke her toe while doing her own stunts without a harness in Apex: ‘A miracle that I am here today'

Hollywood star Charlize Theron is embracing danger in her next action-packed role. At Netflix's 2025 upfront presentation on Wednesday, the Mad Max: Fury Road star gave audiences a first glimpse into Apex, her upcoming thriller set in Australia. The film, which just wrapped shooting, demanded intense physical work from Charlize — including doing her own stunts under risky conditions. 'Our crew delivered a really impressive movie, and yours truly did some stunts and action — without a harness, sometimes. Don't tell Netflix,' she quipped. Having only recently completed filming, the 49-year-old actor admitted she's still feeling the aftermath. 'It's actually a miracle that I'm here today. Apex only wrapped like a week ago, so I'm fresh off the mountain. I still have some Australian dirt under this pretty manicure, and my cute boot is hiding a fractured toe, and I can go on and on and on, but I won't,' she said. A post shared by Charlize Theron (@charlizeafrica) Even with the physical toll, the experience was deeply rewarding. 'I can honestly say that shooting Apex was one of the most incredible experiences of my life,' she shared. Charlize also reflected on how Apex managed to surpass the action intensity of her other projects. 'I actually never thought that I would be able to outdo the action that I did in Old Guard 2, which is coming out in a couple of weeks,' she said. 'Back to me almost dying, I'm really proud to share a little of this mammoth movie that I got to work on, and I have to say I was very lucky to work alongside the very talented Taron Egerton,' she added. The story, she revealed, centers around 'a woman trying to rediscover herself only to be hunted by a ruthless and unforgiving human predator.' Footage screened during the event suggested Taron plays that relentless adversary. Directed by Baltasar Kormákur, known for 2 Guns and Beast, the film also stars Troy and Munich star Eric Bana. While the movie doesn't have a release date yet, it's already shaping up to be one of Netflix's most ambitious action films.

Charlize Theron roped into Afrikaner 'refugee' backlash

Mzansi has been reminded about Charlize Theron's quip about her mother tongue, Afrikaans, after a group of 49 Afrikaner 'refugees' arrived in the US this week. The group was part of the first batch of white South Africans who were granted refugee status abroad thanks to US President Donald Trump's Executive Order. This was based on his false beliefs that the South African minority group were victims of 'racial discrimination'. This week, 49 Afrikaner 'refugees' touched down in the US as part of Trump's refugee resettlement plan, first announced via an Executive Order in February. The group was made up of white South African families who claimed that they were victims of 'farm attacks'. TV and radio personality Dan Corder noted how the number was close to the figure highlighted by Theron in 2022. In a clip posted on his social media platforms, he said, 'Remember, Charlize reported that there were only 44 Afrikaners left in the world. Which means they've actually gone up from 44 to 49. They found five more. He jokingly continued: 'That's an 11% population increase in just three years. The Afrikaans population has exploded. Well done, guys!' In the comments section, others continued with the running joke: 'At least the US will now have a rugby team.' 'There goes the biltong secret recipe.' 'Is Afrikaans and Afrikaners in SA now extinct?' Back in 2022, Charlize Theron – a Benoni-born Afrikaner and now US citizen – courted controversy over her casual comments about her mother tongue, Afrikaans. The apparent 'joke' was made in an interview with the podcast SmartLess. Chatting to podcast hosts Sean Hayes, Jason Bateman, and Will Arnett, Charlize spoke about learning English when she moved to the US at the age of 19 years old. She then claimed that she had to learn English 'from scratch'. And it seems that while Charlize still speaks Afrikaans to her mother Gerda, it's not a language she hears often. In comments that irked her home country, she added, 'There are about 44 people still speaking it. It's definitely a dying language; it's not a very helpful language.' Charlize Theron jokes her kids have 'zero respect' for her career

Charlize Theron's children are unimpressed by her career. The Oscar-winning star is one of the best-known actresses in Hollywood - but Charlize's kids are underwhelmed by her achievements. During an appearance on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!', Charlize quipped: "My children have zero respect for me. "It's just unbelievable, I feel like I'm pretty humble, but every once in a while I'm like 'there's a f****** Oscar right there.' They are so not impressed with me." Charlize - who has adopted daughters Jackson, 12, and August, nine - recalled a recent incident when one of her kids admitted to being impressed by another well-known movie star. The 49-year-old actress shared: "I was picking up my youngest from dance yesterday and we drove past the new 'Mission Impossible' poster where Tom Cruise is hanging onto some yellow plane, and he just looks really cool. "My kids were with me when I shot 'Old Guard 2' and I worked on this incredibly intricate sequence where we brought in this amazing helicopter pilot, Fred North, and we were gonna choreograph this incredible me fighting helicopters and jumping on this real helicopter and hanging off. Shooting 99 percent of it on a real helicopter as it's trying to shake me off like a rag doll. "We took like two weeks to shoot this sequence and I was like, 'Wow, I just did that, that's really amazing.' And my child yesterday just looked at this poster of Tom Cruise and went, 'It's weird, he looks so much cooler than you did when you were hanging off the helicopter.' "I was just like, 'I hung off the helicopter, [can I have] some credit?'" Meanwhile, Charlize previously revealed that she's teaching acceptance to her children. The actress told 'RuPaul's Drag Race: Untucked': "I want [my kids] to grow up in a world where they know what it means to accept what's not you, what is different and love that, to not be scared of that, and to embrace it, and that's my job as a mom. "I feel like we're living in a day and age where our words can so easily be weaponised against us. "I worry about us as people and what we can do to each other, and how powerful it is when you love and how powerful it is when you hate. One destroys and one builds."

I Didn't Realize Charlize Theron Was This (Playfully) Petty Until I Heard This Story About Her Mom

Charlize Theron had a hilariously petty moment with her mom, and I need you to hear about it. During a recent interview on the YouTube series House Guest with Scott Evans, RuPaul's Drag Race Season 8 winner, Bob the Drag Queen, stopped by to share some fun stories, and he did not disappoint with the tale about his friend Charlize. "I was once at a party that Charlize Theron invited me to," Bob said. "We were just talking, and then she pointed at a group of women, and she goes, 'That's my mom.'" "And I said, 'Oh my God, that's your mom?' She goes, 'Yep, that's my mom.' You look the same age. She was like, 'What?' I was like, 'Your mom and you look the same age.'" Bob added that he's not one to hand out fake compliments, so he was being genuine when he told The Old Guard star about the strong resemblance she shared with her mom despite their age difference. But as much as Bob insisted, Charlize just wasn't buying it. There was only one way to settle this in Charlize's mind, so she called her mom over to where she and Bob were standing. But as her mom was walking over, Bob noticed that it was a completely different woman than who he thought Charlize was pointing to in the group. "A different woman walks over, who indeed looks like her mother," Bob continued. "A woman who certainly looks a solid 20 to 30 years older. I thought she was pointing at a different woman, so now what am I gonna do? Now, her mom's walking up to me. Am I gonna go, 'No, no, not you! You do look older than her! I was talking about that much younger-looking woman. You could be her mom twice over.'" Bob said Charlize and her mom have a fun relationship, so when she called her over, she said, "Bob is trying to say that you look younger than we look the same age. And her mom goes, 'Oh my god, thank you!' And I was like, 'Yup, that's it. Y'all basically look the same age.'" As the conversation went on, Bob continued to shower Charlize's mom with compliments. "I said, 'Yeah, you look amazing. You look so much younger than you really are. Congratulations.' And then I ran into [Charlize] later at the party and I said, 'Charlize, I thought you were talking about that woman.' Charlize goes, 'Oh, we are the same age. We're like the exact same age.' And then she goes, 'Wait, you weren't talking about my mom? Oh, this is delicious! I'm going to tell her.'" Bob quickly left the party before Charlize and her mother could confront him, but he remembers the actor being "elated" to playfully burst her mom's bubble.
