CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A case of animal cruelty in Charlotte has sparked outrage after a video surfaced online showing an opossum being doused in lighter fluid and set on fire. The footage, shared on social media under multiple accounts on Thursday, April 24, quickly went viral and prompted an investigation by the North Carolina Wildlife Commission. According to authorities, at least three people appear to be involved. While the suspects have not yet been named and no charges have been filed, police confirm that they have received enough credible tips to move forward. 'Thank you to everybody who has contacted Crime Stoppers and sent tips about the animal cruelty incident involving the possum on Facebook,' Charlotte Crime Stoppers shared. 'At this point, we have enough information to move forward, we don't need any more tips. Thank you again for your support.' Animal Wellness Action and Center for a Humane Economy announced a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible. 'This isn't just animal cruelty — it's a public safety issue,' the organization said.
