Chase Claypool says he's stronger and faster than ever after missing last season
Almost a year ago, wide receiver Chase Claypool suffered a toe injury in Bills training camp that was initially described as day-to-day but ended up being so serious that it cost him the entire season. Now Claypool is unsigned, but says he's ready to have the best year of his career. Claypool wrote on social media that he needed extensive medical treatment and rehab but is now capable of doing everything he's ever done on the football field. Advertisement "I tore a ligament and a tendon in my second toe and have been rehabbing, working out, and recovering every day for the past year," Claypool wrote. "I am back to being the strongest and fastest I've ever been and couldn't be more excited to step back out on the field and let my actions speak for themselves. I deeply and truly believe that the pieces will align, and I will work my way into the position to show off what's been suppressed these last two years." The 27-year-old Claypool has talent, which is why the Steelers drafted him in the second round in 2020 and why the Bears traded a second-round pick to acquire him in 2022. But after a promising first couple of seasons in Pittsburgh, his production plummeted. In 2023 he caught just eight passes while playing for two teams, the Bears and Dolphins, and then didn't play at all in 2024. Claypool has fallen a long way from when he was one of the NFL's best rookie receivers five years ago, but he has shown enough in his NFL career that some team will likely give him a chance to show in training camp that he really is stronger and faster than ever.

Former Steelers WR Chase Claypool plans NFL comeback
July 6 - Veteran wide receiver Chase Claypool, who hasn't played in the NFL since 2023, is confident he will be able resume his career after recovering from a toe injury. Claypool, 26, signed with the Buffalo Bills last offseason but missed the 2024 campaign due to the injury he suffered last August. He was released by the Bills with an injury settlement. The four-year pro, who was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the 2020 draft, wrote on social media on Friday that he is "the strongest and fastest I've ever been" following a full offseason of recovery and rehab. "I tore a ligament and a tendon in my second toe and have been rehabbing, working out, and recovering every day for the past year," Claypool posted on Instagram. "I am back to being the strongest and fastest I've ever been and couldn't be more excited to step back out on the field and let my actions speak for themselves. "I deeply and truly believe that the pieces will align, and I will work my way into the position to show off what's been suppressed these last two years." In four seasons with the Steelers (2020-22), Chicago Bears (2022-23) and Miami Dolphins (2023), Claypool recorded 175 catches for 2,261 yards and 13 touchdowns in 58 games (32 starts). --Field Level Media

Former Steelers WR provides health update after season-ending injury, eyes NFL comeback
Former Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool provided his first health update after his season-ending injury last season — and he's gearing up for an NFL comeback. On Friday, Claypool took to Instagram and discussed the severity of his injury — as well as set the record straight on what's next in his football career: "I tore a ligament and a tendon in my second toe and have been rehabbing, working out, and recovering every day for the past year," Claypool wrote. "I am back to being the strongest and fastest I've ever been and couldn't be more excited to step back out on the field and let my actions speak for themselves. I deeply and truly believe that the pieces will align, and I will work my way into the position to show off what's been suppressed these last two years." Claypool also thanked the Bills organization in his Instagram post, singling out teammates, coaches, and other staff who supported him during his time in Buffalo. The Steelers drafted Claypool with the 49th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, where he showed true promise for two and a half seasons — accumulating 2,211 yards from scrimmage, as well as 14 total touchdowns. Pittsburgh traded him to the Bears in 2022 for a second-round pick — which, thanks to Chicago's last-place finish, turned into pick No. 32 overall and allowed the Steelers to acquire CB Joey Porter Jr. With Claypool readying for a return to the NFL, and the Steelers in need of additional wide receivers on offense, could a 2025 Steel City reunion under Aaron Rodgers be on the horizon? WR Kaydon Finley chooses Notre Dame over father's alma mater Texas
Four-star receiver Kaydon Finley committed to Notre Dame over Texas on Friday night as the Irish pulled off a recruiting trick that's been virtually impossible, taking a Longhorns legacy out of the Lone Star State. Finley's father, tight end Jermichael Finley, starred in Austin before a six-year career with the Green Bay Packers that included a Super Bowl win. Advertisement Notre Dame will open Finley's freshman season at Lambeau Field, where his dad starred in his professional career, against Wisconsin. Finley's commitment is Notre Dame's 23rd this cycle, with the Irish haul ranked in the top five on all four major services. Finley is the second receiver in the class and could be the first of three to fall to Notre Dame this weekend. The Irish are expected to land Devin Fitzgerald on Saturday, and Brayden Robinson is scheduled to commit on Sunday. Fitzgerald is the son of legendary former NFL wideout Larry Fitzgerald, an 11-time Pro Bowler who spent his entire 17-year career with the Arizona Cardinals. A weekend sweep would give Notre Dame four wideouts in the class — Bubba Frazier of Savannah, Ga., committed in April — as assistant Mike Brown continues the long rebuild of a position group that's struggled to keep up with other College Football Playoff contenders. In their past 10 recruiting classes, the Irish have signed 30 receivers and have produced more draft picks at defensive back (two) from that group than actual wideouts (one). Chase Claypool is the last receiver signed by Notre Dame who developed into an NFL draft pick, 10 recruiting cycles ago. The Irish turned Cam Hart (cornerback) and Xavier Watts (safety) into draft picks after position switches. During that barren run, Notre Dame has signed just three Top 100 overall prospects at receiver. Sophomore Cam Williams is expected to be a reserve this season. Jordan Johnson transferred to Central Florida after his freshman year and didn't play at future stops. Kevin Austin's career was stunted by injury before becoming an undrafted free agent. Finley will hope to buck that trend, with the Irish projecting he turns out more like junior Jaden Greathouse, another four-star prospect signed out of Texas. Greathouse led the Irish with 592 receiving yards last season on 43 catches with four touchdowns. The Irish haven't had a wide receiver lead the team in receptions, since Claypool's senior year, six seasons ago. Claypool was also Notre Dame's last 1,000-yard receiver. Advertisement Considering his NFL heritage and prep production — Finley posted 81 catches for 1,432 yards and 21 touchdowns at Aledo last season — he's a good bet to reverse some of those trends. In addition to Notre Dame and Texas, Finley also listed offers from Texas A&M, Georgia, Miami, Oregon and Penn State. The 6-foot, 200-pound athlete is a unanimous four-star prospect across the four services, ranging from No. 93 overall on Rivals to No. 216 overall on 247 Sports. He's also the 13th Top 200 overall prospect to commit to Notre Dame, per the 247 Sports Composite. The Irish have never signed more than a dozen Top 200 overall prospects, per the 247 Sports Composite, in a single class during the Rivals/247 era. Notre Dame signed 12 Top 200 prospects in the 2013 and 2006 classes, both regarded as the high-water marks for Brian Kelly and Charlie Weis. With two more receivers likely to commit this weekend, and three-star safety Nick Reddish and four-star defensive lineman Elijah Golden scheduled to make announcements later this month, this haul built by Marcus Freeman could be the best since Lou Holtz.
